The Hampton is next to El Pueblo Taco shop /Valero gas station. They feature cheap fish tacos that are tasty the first few times then you realize they are making them with cheap Chinese Tilapia and they don't taste so good anymore...
The Days Inn is where the City was putting up the homeless with vouchers. Not sure they are still doing so but it's a Days Inn so YMMV.
On the food side, I forgot to recommend Gregorio's in Carlsbad for good Italian food. If you can, find a seat at the bar, the bartenders there pour a solid glass of wine.
I second this recommendation. They also have Duet IPA from Alpine brewing on tap. Best brew to wash down a California burrito!

Yes, I think Days Inn is still sketchy. Umm, "watch your step" to say the least.
Best fish tacos i had in san Diego are kikos place seafood. It's just a food truck but always in the same spot in mission valley. Just the regular fish tacos are my favorite and only 3 bucks or 3 for $6on tuesdays.

Yep! LJ Blvd and Midway I think. About a kilometer south of Bird Rock Ave. Pretty worthy.
Their 'Surfers Special' burrito is bomb and one of the best post surf grinds in San Diego.
