Once, got a $100 gift card from a parent of a B student. Returned it. Then a year or two later, the district put into place a $50 gift limit rule bc they got sued from some family that gave extravagant gifts to their kid's special ed teacher.
because they were a B student...?

we give the teachers cash at christmas and end of year

we're not up in their shiz and I don't think any of the boys are hard cases

is that bad?

I did a big favor for a kid and his mom gave me a 50 gift certificate for dinner.

I gave it to the office manager and she took another girl in the office out.

I always go above and beyond.

I had a rich Arab kid give me expensive wine.

I drank those bottles.

I think a small token is good.

I always tell my students to give small tokens of appreciation when old people (like teachers) help them out.

They are used to teachers helping that they always hem and haw at this idea.

it's never tit for tat.

that's a bit too on the nose for my tastes.

I'd rather have money in the bank in the event something came up...then the
teacher is free to make a judgement call.

zero expectations.

6 classes (teachers) x $100 gift card gets expensive. I don't really know what the parents expected, but the counselor called the parents and talked w them. I assume all the teachers returned the cards, but I don't know.

IMO, the best presents are things that the students make: cards, ornaments, drawings, etc. Gift cards are cool, but most of the time it's for stuff I don't really need/use, anyway (e.g., Starbucks).

Save your $ and have your boys make something for their favorite teachers or those that you know do a lot for the students.

We gave wine to our boys' elementary teachers, haha.

When I tell the students to show appreciation, they always think I'm trying to get something.

I have to say, "No, not me. When you are out in the world, show appreciation when people go above and beyond. That is an easy way to signal you are a quality person." (Can I say virtue signal?)

It can just be a note of thanks.

Most people don't do it.

It's not malace. No one never taught them good.

I totally agree with you, that the best way to say thank you to somebody is just by saying it and mean it. There is no need for expensive gifts or cards. But anyway, if you want to express your thankfulness to someone just give something creative and unique that's made from you. For example, you can create your own gift on soufeel.com write a note and print your homemade art work. In this way you don't spend much money and effort, and you don't put the other person in a difficult situation, so they have to reject the present.

Why unwanted? I am personally always happy about this, especially since I found out how to get free gift cards and I do this quite often, making such gifts to those close to me because it is really something ingenious and very useful. I found out about this by chance on the internet, seeing that many people gave positive feedback and described thousands of incomes from this.

I just wrote a letter of rec for an ex student who is on Team Jesus.

She will probably thank Jesus for all my help.

Whatever.

She's a great kid.

I'm happy to have Jesus work through me to help her out. :dancing:

When the puppet master pulls the strings I must obey.

And I'm buying a stairway to heaven.
