I have two suits, both Xcel 4/3 chest-zip, can't recall the model. Few years old now.

One is falling apart, has knees lower legs cut-off, getting more and more full of holes, thinning out everywhere. It's the only suit I've used since moving to LA from Santa Cruz. Some days it's a bit much, but usually it's just right.

The other is the same suit, worn maybe once, I can't remember. Bought it for winter 2019/2020 in Santa Cruz but moved here two weeks or so after buying. Since moving down here I haven't needed it. In LA I have been cold in the water exactly twice, and neither time was I very cold.

How much time you got? Water temps here vary from about 36-76 so need a variety:

5/4 hooded Xcel Drylock (new and crappy)
4/3 hooded Xcel Drylock (old and great but on it's last legs)
4/3 non hooded Xcel Drylock (new and crappy)
4/3 Vissla something (old and heavy)
3/2 Xcel Comp (old)
3/2 Xcel Comp (newer with fuzzy lining)
2 mil Xcel Comp
2/1 Hurley long sleeve spring
2 mil Xcel smoothskin top (about to die, waist cinch snapped)

2 pairs Xcel Drylock 7 mil boots, 1 pair Xcel 5 mil boots, 1 pair Billabong 3 mil boots, 1 pair Xcel 7 mil mitts, 1 pair Xcel 5 mil gloves, 1 pair crappy 3 mil Rip Curl gloves and 1 pair 1.5 mil Xcel gloves.

Thank god for underbed storage.

Gonna replace most of the thick Xcels with O'Neils going forward since the latest Xcels leak in the crotch despite a trip back to Xcel for repair. The tape isn't as wide as it used to be in the older suits and I think the seams stretch at the edges and leak.

2mm short sleeve full is the suit I wear most here in So CA:cheers:

who da fuk likes to put on a wet wetsuit? :socrazy:
I like it to be slightly damp. Goes on easier; and if I warm up a bit it helps the pre-heat a little I think.

Shortsleeve Rip Curl top not sure if .5/1mm or just 1mm
2/1 Xcel longsleeve top
2mm zipperless Rip Curl Spring Suit
2mm Xcel shortsleeve fullsuit
2mm Xcel comp fullsuit
3/2mm Xcel comp fullsuit
3/2mm Xcel Infinity
3/2mm Xcel Drylock

3mm Vissla booties. They fit the best but a bit meh
3mm Rip Curl gloves
Rip Curl hood

I use the booties almost every winter - 55. Gloves go on at about 53. Roundabout 50, hood goes on. Don't use that one all that often, but generally if words like "snowmageddon" or "polar vortex" are getting used, the very, very shallow water (only 100 feet deep 30 miles out) can get surprisingly cold. I tried 48/49 with no hood and I felt like I was going to pass out duck diving.
