a friend and i are heading down to costa rica after graduation for 10 days and are looking for the cheapest way to do it...where's a good waist to head high kind of break that wont be hard to get to from the capitol? could we camp out or is there something for the broke college kid?

camping is doable in most areas of CR, but you should also be able to find decent lodging for cheap. The most expensive is likely Tamarindo and you can get $12/night/person here at several different hostels. If you stay multiple nights, they might even offer a price break.

Its worth thinking about the additional weight of tent/hammock camping gear, and also about storage-- you don't want to haul your board and luggage with you if you decide to go out for some beer.

good luck!
