Pain Can radiate into shoulder, arm, hand, fingers. sounds like nerve is still inflamed/angry.

ice it for 20 min at a time 2-4x a day. And take it easy for like a week at least. Give the inflammation time to calm down

When mind gets bad and won’t get better w rest - usually happens a couple times a yr I get a 5 day course of prednisone to knock the inflammation down- that almost always does the trick.

A week? I have a hard time being inactive for a couple days. The surf session was my first after a bout of Covid. I was jonesing so hard to surf I paddled out into a crowd I would normally avoid, and because of the crowd went for a wave I pretty much knew I wouldn't make.

Also after the whiplash I was lulled by the efficacy of the Advil and the day after went for a long run and definitely aggravated it. Now the Advil doesn't work. I tried two 200mg Advils (ibuprofen) followed by some Tylenol (acetaminphen) this morning. Still aching. Zero effect. Ice helps a little.

You want the pain to radiate less, and less, ie only feel it in the neck… if you do something n pain is in shoulder etc - that means it’s too much. N I hear ya w hard time taking it easy- if keep aggravating it, then it’ll take way longer to heal.

advil, Tylenol - better off skipping all of it n listening to the body/not masking pain from my experience

So after my whiplash event a couple weeks ago I finally felt ready to surf. Of course there was nothing rideable locally ( unless you consider chest high close outs rideable). So I worked in the garden.

I was was trying to pull out some yuccas (they’re like weeds with hypodermic needles sprouting up everywhere). I had a shovel under one and was trying to leverage it up, pushing down on the shovel’s handle with all my weight when it slipped. The sudden downward movement of my whole body whiplashed my neck again. Fookin hell! Godammit! Now my neck is all sore and sensitive to movement again.
