Mexico considered second world? surprised if it is. The idea of walking around in any mexican bigish city gives me the hibbie jibbies. I don't think a place as violent as Mexico can be considered 2nd world. Where I live is no walk in the park, but Mexico is downright scary (at least that's the vibe I get from it, never been)
I was under the impression "First World" meant NATO or other advanced nations like US, UK, Germany, France, Japan, Switzerland, etc. and "Second World" meant Soviet Bloc/Warsaw Pact like Poland, USSR, Hungary, and Third World was everything else.

The idea of walking around Guadalajara or Morelia or Tepic gives me a boner, because I won't be covered in sweat like Mazatlan, Manzanillo, PV, Lazaro...

Are you going to the Centro Historico and places you, as a tourist, belong?

You go to the wrong neighborhood here in Jacksonville, you'll be identified as an outsider on sight, and you'd stand a non-trivial chance of getting jumped and relieved of your possessions.

Still rather be relieved of my possessions than be relieved of most of my limbs and maybe get burned alive inside my car or even get hung from a bridge somewhere.

You wouldn’t stroll around a lot of Rio after dark, would you? Take the family out for a night in the favalas? I wouldn’t stroll my lily white nalgas around west side Oahu either.

Be good and you’re good. Be dumb, ...

First world = Countries that extract wealth from the third world to import to back to the "first world" and maintain control through violence and/or misinformation. What was once done "for the empire" is now done for corporate entities that prop up the economy and therefore the government of the "first world". Meanwhile, the first world calls the 3rd world barbaric, lacking infrastructure, and dangerous while maintaining the status quo through violence.

When visiting Rio I would only go where my sister took me. She moved back to SP this January so no more leisure in Rio :)

My father-in-law retired in a 3rd world country, living very comfortably on his SS and pension. It was great until he got into an accident along some backroad and it took a couple of hours for emergency responders to get there (not that they were any help). And that was how he checked out of this world

I think rocked is more appropriate. And yes they did. I once got off the bus for a half hour break in Tequila, Jalisco, and stayed three days. Ditto Oaxaca, all over the state. There’s mind blowing stuff to see all over the place. Lived in the DF ‘92 to ‘95, was still reasonable then. My first day there my Mexican counterpart took me on a tour of Tepito. Look it up for laughs. Taxco. Great place.

Guanajuato is full of colonial stuff. War zone. Name a state, municipality, city in the country and all the same. The inmates be runnin’ de asylum on the local level. But as an outsider you’d never see it. The targets are local people that can pay, as a tourist I think your exposure would be negligible.

We live at the end of the road, and until recently with no neighbors closer than a 15 minute drive during daylight, half hour at night with no moon. We have one functional locking door, the rest is screened. Never had one single problem in over 20 years.

I don't know about that. I've spent about 6 months there over the course of several trips. Brazil is more of a beach culture (far inlanders excluded) than just about anywhere in the world. They've had a surf culture there for a very long time.

As for the stereotypical Brazzo in Indo/Hawaii/etc everyone loves to hate, I think that's more a function of them coming from a high enough upper class to afford being able to travel the world with a crap currency. With that kind of money in a country with that high of wealth inequality, you can basically walk all over people and they will still wash your feet afterwards. There is also an intensity to the culture that comes from living in such a high crime city like Rio.

Like brukuns pointed out, your working class Brazzos surfer tend to be more polite.
99% of my experience with Brasileros has been in Brazil and it's always been positive. you will compete for the wave and they scrap like hell for every wave but i've never been burned, no stink-eye, nothing, at least in Rio. in fact, the line-up is probably the one of the safest places you can be, in Rio. i've found Brazilian surfers to indeed be polite and friendly on their home turf. ymmv.

I've surfed with Tati numerous times, she's a high level burn artist and strategic back paddler. Tried to get cute and paddle under me once, I got a 6'4 wingspan and paddled over her back and whispered near her, "I'm GOING." She never paddled under me again.

She definitely uses her ASSets to paddle under and get waves from bros, kooks, old dudes, etc.
that could've been a porn scene....

There used to be this chick that had the best ass and the worst face, but I somehow ended up duck diving behind her often as a grom.

I love surfing with Aussies, especially hot aussie women. Very friendly, great surf etiquette.
Aussies are a mixed bag hahaha. Depends the spots ranges from get your ass beat if you burn somebody, to super chill, to hyper ultra competitive. Theres even a stark contrast in line ups from snapper to burleigh

2nd world is the place to be. Cheap healthcare performed by doctors that know what they're doing, bribe-able cops, fast wifi, good food. Bali, Mexico, Thailand, Greece, etc.
The countries you listed are first and third world. The second world is the Warsaw Pact nations.
(First World is NATO countries and their close partners. Third world was the developing countries the first and second world were vying for influence over.)
These may seem like antiquated definitions but those are antiquated terms and really shouldn't be used anymore. If you want to call a shithole country something other than "shithole" say "developing" instead of "third world".
