Best for what? Feeling light and free? Can't really advise on that.
Strong as hell? For that I like these:

The worst leash I ever came into possession of was an OAM. It was free. But it failed in 3 foot mush. They gave me two more. That both failed in 3 foot mush. (summertime) Like immediately. It was amazing.

Yup. Had a couple of them that detached at swivel. One of them detached while I was paddling.

Worst I had was a crow hasley, I know they get praise here but mine was terrible.

Dakine is my go to.
same deal here with CH. I like Dakine or Creatures. Never had an issue with either. Leash strings on the other hand...there needs be a thread for that!

They all suck.

Dakines broke
CI uncomfortable
Stay covered weak
Creatures my favorite for comfort and strength but velcro gets weak then turns worthless
Pro lite feels pretty good but the velcro seems weak on that too.

I should probably just quit surfing

Plus one on Stay Covereds. I have never snapped one and I surf them in really heavy waves that snap all other brands like rubber bands. I have literally lost boards into the rocks for years not using these leashes. I even took an old one the Velcro was done on, tied it to the fence and pulled it with my truck till it snapped. Stretched out to like 20 feet before it snapped and dented my tailgate.

I'm using Stay Covered as well.

I feel like they tangle slightly less than other leashes which is a big plus.

I broke one last year but it was a comp leash in way heavier conditions than it was designed for.

Have since replaced it and bought a proper size for the heavier days (both Stay Covered).

I broke a stay covered leach twice in one session. Broke first time, I tied it back on and it broke again in a different spot. Never again.
To clarify, the ones I'm talking about are the hand tied dealio's specifically above. They cover and strengthen some usual fail points.
Never used any of their other ones without those features. Prob similar to most other brands.
For smaller waves and spots that won't destroy boards if a leash snaps, I just use whatever

DaKine is fine.

Can't get too excited about leashes. I try and surf without one whenever practical. DaKine is the least offensive, cheap-ish and last for a bit. Usually go through one comp one a year and bust out the non-comp one when it's big enough to warrant.
