Off the very top of my head Duran Barr surfs better than her, and there is no way he is
the best surfer from Oceanside.

And yes it should be considered hyperbolic when Defrost enthusiastically claims she’s the best surfer to come out of Oceanside ever.
Duran Barr is also from Carlsbad. You’re not very good at this. You should have gone with Lucas, who is actually from Oceanside. Also, Duran Barr? Lol.

But I see where you’re going. The guy who despises men pretending to be women for athletic purposes wants to claim no woman can be “the best” because she’s not better than all the men.

She's got a lot going for her. I hope she grows into all of it.
i just noticed your old comment about LTR. She’s already got new coaching - JD can’t make the tour commitment- but I think she’ll always touch in there. He knows her surfing better than anyone.

There’s a bit of crossover with the two clubs, but Lucas should be with Oside for sure. Justin Heit

Yeah, looks like she's working with Tommy Whitaker. A good call.
Coaching is different at that level. LTR experience doesn't reach that far up.
Navigating the CT is different than whatever your domestic coach can provide. They become whisperers. The pressure, the contest site, the locations, the scene... A coach ends up blurring the lines between manager and coach at that level, or makes sure you have someone to fill those roles.

It is really awesome that she's still with Chris Borst.
I've seen it a miillion times. smaller brands bending over to support qualification efforts, then they jump to a bigger board brand when they qualify.

Caroline and Baron come to mind, but there are more.

Part of it is logistics.
Part of it is that the small brands just can't supply the equipment in the needed amount.
Part of it is money.

There's a reason why most CT surfers ride for the same 5 brands.

Lucas Owsten also grew up riding Borst. He switched to Pyzel a few years ago and now on to JS. I was kinda bummed when he switched. Was hoping he would stay on Chris's boards. He's got a long climb in front of him to make it. Hope he does!

Carissa and Nezzy.

Years ago Wade told me Jordy wanted to surf for Tokoro. Wade told him he couldn’t afford him. Not sure but some of the CT guys get 200 boars a year.

Isn't Taylor Knox an investor in Borst? If so, I see him helping out to keep that relationship growing.
Maricio was not one of the big brands until a year or so ago and he's been able to keep boards under the feet of 70% of the top ten.

I still remember how bitter Jason was when Caroline jumped ship from Chem. Baron didn’t seem as personal.

He had Kalanis for a few years too. Those actually went really well for him.

He looked really good on the Kalani boards. I've been tempted to try one of his old sticks at Surfride but the pointy nose bothers me. lol. Lucas' technique and style has gotten really good! I like watching him surf. He's not a little spoiled brat either like most of the OC Kids. If he was a little more hungry for it, he could be grrrreat!!

Best surfer to come out of Oceanside? Hmmm. That’s a tough question. Who is the homeless guy that hangs out by the railroad tracks near Pappy’s?
