Tell us where you gained your expertise - do you have something to confess?
Any clown can read marketing/tech specs. I took a materials class one summer term in college. I am not sure about the word "confess"? It's not like I was ever a longboarder or a mid lengther. Or a SUKr.

Is this the point where I mention how I think the WSL wastes every wave at The Box and Teahupoo by not even trying backflips out the bowl? The same boring tuberide to cutback, every wave, all Tahiti contest, no air roll spins or backflips? (Edit: I could say the same about people other than Won Taloa at Malibu on bodyboards. If you aren't elite DK or standup BB, or Jesse Billauer, GTFO Malibu on a bodyboard.)

Vero was a good place to have a bodyboard. They collect dust in Jax Beach; maybe a blowout or two each year the inside gets some dumpers. Talbot and Vilano aren't do-able on weekdays and no thanks zoos on the weekends.

Love me some boogs... don't really ride them anymore because I need to get better at stand up surfing, but have them in a range of sizes for any friends / family who want to get out in the water... Like Sharkbiscuit said, my top tier 42.5" is beaded Polypro with a single carbon stringer... Most of the rest are PE Cores with 1 or 2 stringers depending on the size. PE is cheaper, but still very durable if well made and performs fine.

Mike Stewart would tell you that PE helps you ride smoother, but you're not going to get the speed of PP.

I have a brand new one Science Pipeline model from a few years back. Was looking at it just sitting there and wondering what the construction is.
I think You mean a Science brand "Pipe" model, which is the cheapest adult bodyboard they make.

PE Core
HDPE Bottom
Should be a single stringer, depending on it size, so likely don't put a leash plug in the very center.

Yeah, that's the one.

Thinking about riding it this summer at a hollow blackballed spot.

boog snob!
Maybe a bit, but in no way was my comment negative. The Science Pipe is a solid board. Stoked to hear you plan to take it out this summer and mix it up. I find that motoring around with swim fins on is good cross training, and learning to use them for stability and drag makes it a uniquely dynamic sport which can be fun in the right conditions.

Worked with the founder of No.6 Bodyboards years back on some media for which they shipped me my most prized sponge, The Covenant V2, that I still don’t let anyone touch. Heh heh.

Apparently the founders had to sign over the rights to No. 6 boards because of a power play by Agit or someone with the foam suppliers. Don’t know the details but it’s sounded sucky, and I‘ve read about such a niche market being reliant on a mass market commodity such as foam with huge order quantities required. I don’t see how there are still as many Bodyboard companies out there, but it seems bigger in other countries, and Hawaii, than the US.

Sounds like "normal" surfboard rails, not angular 50/50 or 60/40.

DK guys in flatter-faced surf could Pendo this and it would probably go great.

Roughly 70%+ of all bodyboards come out of one factory in Indonesia. Science, Hubb, Pride, NMD, Morey, and many other brands, shaped by same people, at same factory, using same materials. Factory was started by a guy who used to work for Toobs way back in the day. I believe a container of bodyboards out of the Indo factory cost anywhere from 20k-25k or somewhere in that range, depending on quality of boards of course. Walmart cheapo vs. Science premium.

Another 10-15% of bodyboards come out of another factory in Malaysia or Taiwan, I can't recall.

In the late 90's when the industry was dying quickly, US companies started laying off workers and making way less bodyboards. This created another problem because minimum orders for foam used for the core and decking material, and HDPE for the bottom slick were extremely high. A small company like Toobs or CustomX would have to order $25,000 worth of deck material just to get a single color of decking material which also resulted in a bunch of giant foam rolls that had to be stored and take up a lot of space. So if I they wanted to offer six colors, you can do the math.

Not doable. So remaining brands which were shrinking fast started coordinating orders for materials to split the cost.

As for the few remaining individual shapers around the world, they have to get their materials from the remaining companies like Toobs, etc., if those companies are willing to sell small amounts.
