Also I'd like to add...

You want people hard up to surf to make this thing work. The least hard up to surf people in the state live in Volusia and Duval Counties. St. Augustine is okay and Flagler is weird as hell but at least not as closed out as farther South. Which is unequivocally garbage ass dogshit outside of like three spots, all of which crowd-wise make Jax Pier seem like a neighborhood rip bowl with 3 chill duuuus out and waves to go around.

I checked from Canova to Northern Indian River County on Saturday. Central Brevard County was microscopic and closed out. Bonsteel just up from Sebastian was almost chest on the sets. I think I saw one true corner in 2 hours and that was because the tide was flooding up and the wave fizzled out because it was too deep to break.

Here is a link. Usually on Instagram people are claiming how good it is. Think about all the YouTube we saw, just coming out of Duval County, for Ernesto. Yeah, the Pier was crowded. But at least it was worth having to wash salt and sand off. I surf South Brevard usually once every 4-6 weeks. A couple times per year I have fun. 90% of the time, it's the worst surf I've had since the last time I was down there. It is just soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking closed out. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllll the fucking time.

At least El Porto has long period as an excuse. South Brevard on an 8 second swell looks like El Porto on an 18 second swell.

The funny thing about Florida is the best beachbreaks are in areas with the least surf.

The best beachbreak in the state is South Pointe.

Second if we're being honest is Peniscola area.

Some might say New Smearna but it doesn't do what the two above can do.

Deeper water offshore and fine grain, hard packed sand bars groomed by tiny waves most of the year can make for some fun surf.

Though inconsistent, I like the nugs of the gulf coast but I am partial Central Florida and maybe some select zones of north Florida. Although you can tell you are in a region with a larger shelf and higher tides once you start getting too far up. Interesting how it all affects the waves.

So you like swimming in sh!t for Freedumb?
lol

Do you know what "fecal contamination" actually means when it comes to beaches?

You sound pretty ignorant on the topic.

If you're worried about "fecal contamination" you should quit surfing and definitely never travel for surf.

You sound like you never leave your mommy's basement anyway.

I don't agree with Pensacola being the best beachbreak. IMHO there's a beachbreak in the Eastern Panhandle that's a rival of South Beach in terms of quality and once you consider the crowd, it's a no brainer.

Pensacola I'd rate in terms of having the Pickens option, not for any specific beachbreak spot.

There's a Lower Gulf beachbreak that IMHO can be very high quality shape wise but does not often get size, if ever, and is South Beach-tier nuclear armageddon packed.

But if you're not talking who gets the gold medal for best single day out of 365, pretty much instantly New Smyrna is #1 and Mayport is #2, due in small part to being a decent magnet and due in large part to North wind blockage. There's a gazillion days it's thigh-waist-stomach from Spaniel Haus to Fernandina, and Smyrna is chest to shoulder high and peaky. There's a gazillion days it's torn to shreds along 99% of the coast and Mayport has the chop blocked.

I am partial Central Florida and maybe some select zones of north Florida.
I'd flip the two, but I consider New Smyrna to be North Florida. Satellite on a bombing stormy cutoff low off NFL/GA/SC. Monster Hole on a groundswell with some North and offshores and low tide. South Brevard on anything under 8 seconds with more than a 30 degree angle of approach.

Otherwise, the reefs and shoals are dormant, Central Brevard is **** weak like C grade North Florida, South Brevard is a closeout fest, and Fort Pierce is basically I-4.

You are right about the lower Gulf Coast. There are some gems but rarely do they have size. I enjoy surfing there though, even when rodent sized. I guess I consider anything above Volusia County or maybe Ponce Inlet N. Florida. I don't really get up further than St. Augustine or Flagler (have a friend in crescent and one by high bridge road that I crash with) but try to follow the surf up your way and it looks intriguing. I have caught it good but Ft. Pierce sucks ass. Love the breaks of Stuart when they're on though.

Florida is generally cleaner than third world rivermouths and SoCal three days after a rain. Given the interest in fishing and simply sunbathing, walking, volleyball, metal detecting, flying kites...I don't think beaches should be closed and I don't think we should prevent surfers from surfing or divers from diving etc.

But I also don't agree with cutting funding for testing because knowledge might produce bad press, or having the Governor's State Lackeys overruling the locals.

This issue in specifically Fort Lauderdale IS a problem for water quality in Broward County. Bigtime. Lots of peeps; lots of poops.
Oh yeah. Hopefully they figure it out. I want to see the Lunkerdog crush gamefish into old age. It has been a problem in Sarasota Bay and the NIRL, as well. Aging infrastructure and opening the floodgates for development without appropriate impact fees is no bueno.

Yeah Captain Jeff has been pretty high profile on that one. I throw lures on braid (or nanofil) 99.8% of the time but I have a certified bait bucket.

No, on the contrary, I only know what the experts say about "fecal contamination" in oceans and waterways.

It's pretty obvious you're ignorant on the topic and going with your kneejerk reaction.

That's your personality - angry, disturbed, kneejerk.

I’m not a hardcore mono guy either but I can respect it. I trust the lunker dog and the clairvoyant fish whisperer Mark Krowka
