So, one of my clients sent me an email this morning that said: Hope your tax season is winding down a bit.

I want to respond with: Yeah, life is back to normal now that we're past the deadline
or should it be ...now that we're passed the deadline?

I googled it, but it's still not clear: example 1 example 2

I'm actually going to punt and write - yeah, life is back to normal now, but i'm still curious about the correct answer

Passed - we have extended beyond
Past - we have gone beyond a point - from one side of the deadline to the other

its: we've passed the deadline, or we're past the deadline. Either option is correct. :)

I was thinking that "past" would be an adjective (example: "past due"), but could be also a noun as you noted, whereas "passed" would be the past tense verb :unsure:
