Amazing surfer, even had a half step on Kelly when both were in their primes IMHO.

I’m not a giant Kelly fan, but I’d suggest Kelly’s true prime was the late 90s, at least a handful of years before Andy.
Be an interesting comparison. Kelly's not human, his prime stretched a ridiculous amount of time. Kelly won titles in 1992,1994, 1995, 1996, 1997,1998, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011 while Andy won titles in 2002, 2003, 2004.

Would argue Kelly definitely more prime during the Andy years. He finished 2nd on tour in 2003 & 3rd in 2004. If Andy wasn't in the picture, Kelly probably could have had a four peat 2003-2006. Might even argue, more talent on tour in 2000s compared to Kelly's competitors in the 90s. Then Kelly still sticking it to them & winning all the way up to 2011

But for Pam's poon, and Baywatch, Kelly would have won several more.

Lennox Head.
Kelly destroyed Andy in the post 2004 years.

His true prime was 2010-2014.

That included 3 event victories in non title years (2012- Fiji, Trestle and France, 2013-Kirra, Fiji, Pipe)

He was clearly the best surfer in the World then- he just lost an ounce of consistency in less than stellar waves.

Those years included the Coolie kids, Dane Reynolds, Gabe, JJF.

His earlier titles the competition was clearly so much more inferior to him, he really had no peers.

Wasn’t Medinas first title in 2014? So a young Gabby beat Kelly in his prime?

Lennox Head.
Correct.

20 year old Gabby just beat a 42 year old Slater for the Title.

The crux of that was beating him in the Final at perfect 10ft Chopes.

I still have me a 6'2"x18.5x2 1/4. I probably haven't ridden it in 20 years as I'm old and heavier but it just reminds me some epic rides plus it has nice glass ons. Andy surfing is still relevant today and much better than the current crop of guys who just pump down the line and punt a 360 into the flats.
