Does the body mechanics of heel side turn match the body mechanics of a toe side turn? No it doesn’t. In practice symmetry in a surfboard is actually a dumb idea. A properly setup asym will compensate for the difference in body mechanics.

When I ride my asyms they feel perfectly normal. Better than normal boards.
Yeah, can't think about the asym aspect, just surf.

For folks who have ridden the Bom Dia or the Disorder, how much of a difference does the asymmetric fin setup make? It seems interesting, but it's hard to wrap my head around. OB is a treasure trove of surprises which makes it hard for me to wrap my head around asym fin setups. Seems like fins in the same location would equate to a more consistent feeling board. Should I reconsider?
I agree with everything said about asyms above.

To add.......I've found the toe side twin and heel side quad set-up doesn't feel like a twin and a quad mashup. It feels closest to a thruster except it has more drive through turns and it's more nimble. Best of both worlds, IMO.

I can't speak to asym quads like the bom dia because i haven't tried one.

That rear quad fin, if placed correctly kind of acts like the center fin on a thruster during toe side turns.

Album Townsend 7’ twin assym has piqued my interest as a potential travel board for a trip in October. Anyone have the bulk of Townsend discussion on the thread bookmarked? At $1800 Aud it’s a big chunk of change.

Pretty funny to hear Matt talk about Pyzel and how he never personally shaped Jack Freestone a board.

Lol - when was the last time Matt even touched a blank?

Most shapers that are around their own production will at least QC their own product. Does he even do that? He should, but I hope he doesn't.

In the video he says that he is hands on for the shapes here in the US. He said he keeps his operation small so he can ensure the quality. Its a short video and worth a listen.

I do think the video reveals that Matt is an Artist 1st and a shaper 2nd (unless you think the two can be synonymous).

No Xaunadus around here. Factory that makes the Albums is a 3 min drive for me. I can also ask nicely and have a forage through their used boards in the storage shed. Usually some Margo cast offs in there.
I was just choking on the price tag. Replace Xanadu with any number of similar shapers and the result will be the same.

Like most mids this will excel in hh lined-up surf, which if your travelling is likely what you are hoping for but anything resembling small beach break I would bring something more versatile like a vesper, which like most shapes shines in better surf but this can handle a lower end better IMHO

I had a 7’2 that I sold. Just wan’t getting enough water time on it because of other boards have and a guy offered me a stupid amount of money for it.

Anyway, I could ride that board in anything from ankle high to as big as I can catch.

I currently have a 6’6 Townsend and it’s go to for good waves that are crowded.

A 7’0 would do you good. Those boards work very good as guns.

marketing BS. just like the twin fin. LOL

agree they are especially good backside. IMO the bom dia fin placement (with the quad rear directly under your heel) feels really dialed in (control) and ultra responsive. Personally, i would be interested in that BD quad fin setup on a good wave / socal winter baor 6'4-6'6 with a roundpin.
YMMV.

He's hands-on? :roflmao: What does that mean, exactly? Did you see @sh3 's post about Darius Gross?

Small operation = 3 different labels, sending boards to multiple different glass shops, and running an operation in Baja? Keeping guys on salaried contract?:roflmao:All while personally answering emails?
