Anybody know where to find cheap airfare to Singapore? I've been looking around, 825 is about the best price I can find for a 4 month trip to southeast asia/indo.

If you are in SoCal try Borneo Travel on Pine St in San Francisco (Union Square) They are Indonesian specialists and a bucket shop for SQ that many other agencies use. Very competant. I used them for years before I moved to Indonesia.

Cool thanks for that. I'll be heading there for about 3-5 months. A buddy and I are starting in Nias and working down to Timor.

How many boards do you suggest. I'm hoping 3 is enough.

You know that visa on arrival is only 30 days (30 days does not = 1 month) You should arrange a 60 day visa in LA or SFSF before leaving. If you can find a sponsor either an Indonesian (WNI) or an expat with a valid long term visa (WNA KITAS/KIMS) you should try to get a sosial/budaya (B/421) visa. good for 60 days but can be extended from within the country for a total of 180 days (more or less).

Business visa is another option if your enterprising one year multi entry. I understand there is a quota on these and that may be impacted by VOA. Root around at www.expat.or.id

About the fairs you can also do the fair watcher thing on travelocity.

I'll be freelancing stories as I travel, which qualifies for a business visa. If I can land a sponser I hopefully will be able to bail to SIN or KL to get another visa after 60 days. Any ideas on finding a sponser?
