A quiver idea

I met an older surfer in Indo who has a three board quiver.
All his boards are 8' long, 20" wide, and about 3" thick. They have different tail shapes and widths for different wave conditions. He has a pulled in diamond/squash for bigger waves, a wider winger swallow for smaller waves, and an in between squash for standard waves.

What do people think about this type of quiver?

He claims that he can handle just about any wave conditions with this assortment of boards, and he did surf very well at Ulu and some of the other reefs over there.

As I get older I'm thinking of going longer, wider, and thicker on my board shapes.

Any thoughts?

I kinda think he's limiting himself by having only one length. I'm 48 yrs old (5'5",135 lbs) and I shape my boards slightly wider and thicker than I would for someone my height/weight. This helps a lot in paddling and getting into waves. I'm basically a small wave surfer, up to 6 ft. Hawaiian scale. If I had to pick just three boards from my present quiver I'd pick the following:

6'6"- modern fish.

7'0"- egg

9'0"- modern longboard

These three boards would cover almost any wave condition I'd find myself surfing in.

Aloha

i was just thinking about quivers, and of course what mine does for me. i am 5'10 160
6'1 merrick mx bump squash great in knee to over head ...ps $200 used like new
6'5 byrne gls in squash older shape but good for anything overhead or barrels-biggest 3x overhead in ri- $300 left over from long ago-great at soupbowl this past fall
a 6'2 log rust sqush and a fish both crappers

--you need different size/shape boards for different size/shape waves <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

my magic boards were 6'3 losts-broke em both and payed store price for new

the dude w/ the 8'0s seems like a semi-gun barrel fun boarder type no?

Question?? You all think it makes you a better all around surfer if you surf the same board all the time or if you switch it up using different boards in different conditions??
I have used my 6 board quiver ( 6'0 Lost Fish, 6'4 Skip Fry type Twin Fin, 6'8 Brewer Short Board, 7'0 Spectrum Hybrid Short board, 7'4 Action Fun shape, 9'0 Brewer Longboard ) in everything from Knee Slappers - Overhead Bombs. I've been surfing for about 6 yrs now and although I'm not pullin any airs or Gorkin Flips I can definitely tell you that when I paddle out with a different board, it does take me a wave or 2 to adjust, but after that, its all good!
I would like to hear of others experience.
Nothing is better than riding my 7'0 and then coming out with the 6'0 fish when there are real waves, Duck Diving 6-8 footers never felt so easy!

I wonder if that guy mentioned above from indo with the 3 board quivers is riding Rusty' Desert Island Boards?? Those look fun, but I wouldn't want to be out at Uluwatu getting caught inside and trying to duck dive 8-12ft sets!!
