2019 was a bust for surf in Southern California.

January- March was a washout.

Spring was terrible.

July and Aug was chest high and clean. The highlight of the year. Not saying much. I scored a handful of days at DMJ and Mugu.

Fall was a dud. One small swell with that Santa Ana

Then the rains.

Bust.

No way, it wasn't all time, but not even close to a bust...Newport/Huntington/La Jolla all had gemz.

Turn that frown upside down cuz

Summer was a bit dribbly but there was decent surf beginning of 2019 and have found plenty of decent surf this fall through beginning of winter though nothing epic.

If you were surfing Newport or Trestles it was a decent year. For the rest of us that didn't, it was mediocre.

Trying to be positive.

No huge swell this summer. But consistent chest high surf for long periods of time i would say.

There were no big souths but indeed consistent, waist to chest zone surf in Trestles zone for what felt like June to September. Last winter had some days but required me to hunt as did late fall. However, I went to the Mentawais in November and scored. I have not been motivated to surf much since. Ha.

My best waves this year were in DE/MD/NC.

Late May I got 3 of 4 days in MD. Chest to head high. Clean. Empty. October I also got 2 days in MD and one good day on the OBX.

It was a rough year.

January to March was a nonstop rainout. Finally got in the water and promptly broke my foot, which dry-docked me for a while. Then a laundry list of injuries and being sick, didn't get into double digit numbers of sessions until almost Thanksgiving. Not one day of snowboarding either during arguably one of the best snow years of all time (although late December 2018 was very, very good at Kirkwood).

In my eyes, 2019 can go f*ck itself.

Hoping for a better 2020.

Stoked I got a custom longboard last year. Way more sessions than if I didn't and will always have one in my quiver. Also got a handful of super fun days at one of my favorite reefs on my fish.

There have been fun pockets but I think 2019 has had the worst summer I can remember.

No way. At least there were surfable waves over the summer even if it was a lot of dribble.

Past two summers prior were mostly dead flat.
The past two summers prior I was in NorCal, but we got several 3+@15+ swells each summer to light up our south swell spots. SoCal must have gotten those same swells, only a bit bigger.

2018 did have most of the activity in May and August with little in between.

Disappointing fall. Nothing too memorable. Bad end of year for me. Think I got in the water 4th time this month today. Waiting to see if this cold or whatever comes raging back. It’s New Year’s Eve? Maybe some tequila will help??

Maybe(?), depending on where you live, you're expectations are too high? Maybe those "good" years were anomalies and years like this are "normal". Get a different board, open your horizons. There's tons of fun to be had with the right board for the conditions.

I did. I jumped from a 34 litre shortboard to a 39.5 litre Puddlefish. Made July and Aug fun.

Out with Miniscus crap from Jan-April. Ok Spring. Really fun July at secret sandbar, crappy late summer, slow fall, decent early winter. After two injuries and a total of 10 months out of the water in 2 years, I'm beyond stocked just to be in the water.

And yes Gary, build that quiver up.
