I don't think this case is really addressing the issue - which is "Are major social media companies defacto utilities and should they thus be regulated as such?"
Why is that the issue?

Do corporations lose their first amendment rights when they get too big?

Because they are seemingly operating as utilities.
A public utility is an entity that supplies the public with gas, water, electricity, trash service etc. Cable and broadband are utilities too. They're deemed necessary to society, and would tend to operate as monopolies if not regulated.

How is social media a utility? All social media or just some? How can Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google etc. all be deemed monopolies when they're in competition with each other?

Basically this case is about being able to kick trolls off of social media platforms.

It’s actually not. It’s about liability related to algorithms. It’s a 9th Circuit case, so a definite clash of liberal v conservative courts, but I’m not sure if liberals or conservatives support liability for YouTube here.

When companies like YouTube selectively curate content they expose themselves to legal action like this, don't they?
Is an algorithm selectively curating content? I can see the argument but there’s still the matter of imposing liability for someone else’s intentional illegal actions, which courts don’t like to do. I don’t expect the court will uphold the 9th Circuit here.

I personally would love personalized feed algorithms to go away, but I am not so sure I want them to be made illegal.

If the personalized feeds werent politically based, would they be so bad?
the algorithms are what surface up stuff you’re interested in based on what they know about you.
if I’m getting surf content or content on other stuff I like, I’m more likely to keep clicking than if I’m getting random stuff that I’ve got no interest in

IMO algorithms aren’t always bad

In fact they’re probably necessary. So then you’re back to imposing liability on platform for allowing certain content.

That’s a leap
i haven’t given it enough thought to have any opinion whatsoever
but my initial thought is, no, no liability
Facebook is a dinosaur
twitter will be some day too
tumblr is gone
insta will someday fail
youtube is the worlds instruction manual, so I hope that stays. Is youtube political? my feed isnt

i feel the same way about the test driven content development that creates the endless fire-hose of fear porn being distributed by the msm "news" outlets

it needs to stop, but trying to legislate it away will likely have terrible unintended consequences in terms of limiting free speech
