Super fun in Monmoth County this morning. Kept thinking damn I actually love Jersey lmao Hope all yall got some!

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

100%, thats the other major takeaway - I should really also be thinking about the distance to LBI Its funny, like I know LBI is what it is but I have never actually made the trek there . Either I'm coming from NY and I don't make it further south than ~Bay Head or I'm coming from Cape May...

:roflmao: Sounds about right. We left for a reason, but I think at the very least we know what we'd be signing up for! If I have learned anything from this thread, it's this lmao Thanks to all yall for the helpful responses. Seems most likely we'll end up looking at the burbs closest to the...

Ha, I've run into RK at that spot. He's getting completely pitted and the rest of us were just getting dragged down the beach and slammed into the sandbar. He had a camera crew with him and every time another surfer got close to him he would just move somewhere else on the beach. Nice duu

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

My impression from talking to the locals there over the years is that it used to be a lot better. If I happen to be down there during a swell, I'm usually hopping in the car and driving to Avalon, Sea Isle or AC. They've done so much beach replenishment the bars are constantly screwed up...

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

Yeah, this is what I figured. It would be less of a culture shock than you would think though - I'm from the south, wife is from basically Pennsyltucky. I'm kind of over the city to be honest. Still, I imagine you're right. Edit: Also, I appreciate the honesty, and obviously no offense taken :)

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

Lol, tbh I'd consider it if we could afford it. My in-laws have a place in Cape May that we can stay in anytime, but 1) that's quite a bit further and 2) the waves there are so, so bad

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

It's weird. My current job to Rockaway is probably further in real travel time than Penn to AC. But living halfway puts you smack in the middle of Brooklyn or Queens. Living halfway between Penn and AC puts you in... Hammonton, apparently. Which does seem to be the middle of nowhere. That's the...

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

This is super useful. I had figured that about AC vs LBI. But I'm also guessing AC has more lefts ;). I am stricken with goofy foot-itis, but I guess I can learn how to go right. Ugh. No to hammonton just because there isn't anything going on? I know nothing about the area. I'm literally just...

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

Thank you!!! This is super helpful. Yeah, tbh we're still trying to decide we value. We've been living in the SF Bay Area/NYC for the last 10+ years so where we live has been largely dictated by what we can afford. This is first time we will have options and be able to actually buy something...

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

Yeah people have warned me about this. Fortunately I don't really work 9-5. I tend to work at home a bit in the morning and come in/leave later. Surely I'ldhit it sometimes depending on my schedule for the day, but probably not every day. Also commuting there from OC seems nuts!! Like I said...

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

Yeah I'm sure the whole OC area would be great but surely too far to commute even if not every day. Bay Head and Manasquan are great! But a pretty different part of Jersey. That's @MrSteve territory. Thanks I will look into it! Currently, in BK I've got about a 45m commute to work and a 45m...

    Philidelphia/South Jersey

So I'm in the process of negotiation for a new job that would put me in Philly (currently in NY/Brooklyn). I'm pretty stocked about the idea of moving somewhere cheaper and out of yuryville. The wife would probably prefer to be in the city proper but has already agreed to look at south NJ so I...

A chat about the AM1/AM2 fin template.

Casa you might want to give the Coffin fin a try. I always felt like the AM1 was too small for anything other than really narrow tailed boards. Coffins are basically AM1.5 and we're far and away my favorite overall fin when I was 160#

Skipper's Surf Review: Is it time to stop hating?

I have definitely noticed this the few times Ive run into him. He's just a symptom though. The jetties he frequents are complete chaos. I avoid that area like the plague unless nothing else is working or it's big enough to filter out the riff raff.

    The New Yorker talks Wavestorm

I think it's a little funny that this article in the NYer, a magazine based in the kook capital of the east coast that also employs William Finnegan, was written by someone based in Texas. Instead they should make Finnegan surf 90th street every day for a month in the summer and *then* write an...

The Great Unbiased Wetsuit Review Thread

You wear the 654 or 543? I could never figure out which suit to buy from them. 6 feels extreme but 3 feels like a number that should never appear on a NE winter suit

The Great Unbiased Wetsuit Review Thread

Yeah those size charts are kinda funky When I was 5'10 160 I wore M in both At 175-180 now all my M suits still basically fit. A touch tight but not enough to get me to drop money on new ones.
