    Greg Griffin RIP

Logged on today for the first time in a while and holy sh!t, gutted Greg was obviously a controversial figure and I didn't always agree with him but he was integral to what makes this place, well... whatever it is RIP to a legend

    Summer Surf Trips

Oh I'm with you 1000%. I also did the math and realized the camps were a decent trade off especially considering all the logistics involved. Difference for me is I'll have a non-surfer with me and they charge a lot for what she'd be getting out of it. She was open to it but we opted for a place...

    Summer Surf Trips

We're finally booked as well for 7 nights in Popoyo, also flying to Liberia and crossing over. Decided to opt against the all-inclusive camp in favor of a more a la carte trip but hopefully I'll be able to book a boat to go to some spots out of town. Perhaps I'll pick your brain when you get...

Costa Rica resorts within walking distance of waves that are fun on a HPSB

Yiiiiikes. Sorry dude that's rough! Sadly I think they are literally my only option... Thanks for the data point re: the bag. I figured I'd take a similar strategy of bag in a bag with enough sh!t that going through it at the check-in counter would be a huge hassle.

Costa Rica resorts within walking distance of waves that are fun on a HPSB

Did you end up flying JetBlue and if so did they check? Planning a trip right now and they're my only option for getting to central america, but I can't imagine going all that way to surf and bringing only one board... When I flew Delta to/from CA last year, they had a two-board/bag policy but...

    Summer Surf Trips

Funny, yes that name specifically was mentioned by the camp. Guessing I'd lose some of the time saved on the flight waiting at border patrol, but it would still probably come out a bit cheaper. Thanks :)

    Summer Surf Trips

Has anyone done the border crossing from CR <-> Nica? Southern nica isn't all that much further from Liberia than Managua. One surf camp I've been in touch with told me I could take a cab from Liberia to the border for ~$90 and they could pick me up there. Any experiences with the border patrol...

    Summer Surf Trips

Yeah I think I'm with n4s, I'd probably avoid Tamarindo and head down the coast a bit. Looks like lots of good options not too far out. On the other hand, I feel like if Nica is a more of a hassle probably less people are going there so maybe I should just deal lol What's the deal with rain...

    Summer Surf Trips

thanks raptr and subway that is helpful :) definitely looks easier to get to CR than Nica, can get direct vs needing a transfer and that's a good point re: covid hassles will just be me and the wife, she doesn't surf but is about the lowest maintenance person on the planet so as long as there...

    Summer Surf Trips

Anyone keen to help figure out where to go this summer? I'm a little late to the party but trying to book a trip for mid-late August if I can. I've done very little surf traveling compared to most of you so it's hard for me to even know where to start... - Coming from NY/JFK, it's relatively...

    Summer Surf Trips

Ha, I missed this bc I usually don't check the general forum I've spent a lot of time in that part of NJ, my in-laws have a place in a town near there. We're usually there for a lot of July but alas I'll actually be in LA most of this one. July is probably statistically the slowest month of...

I don't believe in grovelers COME AT ME

I feel this. I've never owned a log, but whenever I've borrowed one I can barely even figure out how to sit on it LOL. I've enjoyed riding the Album Townsend I got from Steve on the smaller days out here. It's longer so more glide, but you still basically have to pump and turn it like a...

I don't believe in grovelers COME AT ME

More to the point - I actually agree that grovelers don't catch waves or paddle better and I am skeptical that adding ~2L to your normal volume "for paddling" or "for wave catching" is helping. I have found I can catch hilariously small waves on my normal boards, but actually riding them is...

I don't believe in grovelers COME AT ME

This is a fun discussion and I do think there is some truth to what PRCD is saying As with baseball's "three true outcomes" maybe there are only "three true surfboards" - the log, the thruster, and the step-up (edit: gun) Maybe that comment will ignite an even bigger flame war! As others have...

Help me pick a new boar(s)

Apparently it is glass that hasn't been baked in an oven for cleaning. Supposed to be quite a bit stronger but more annoying to work with. It doesn't seem to be super commonly used but it has been around for quite a while. Eric said they had only recently started making this option available for...

Help me pick a new boar(s)

Meant to update this thread a while back, I did eventually put a two board order in with... Arakawa surfboards!! Kind of a long story. After a lot of thinking I ultimately decided it would be cool to chat with a shaper but construction was too big of a factor to ignore, so I called Arakawa to...

    Sticker Game

lol @ this place I still put stickers on my work laptop. Mostly surfing/skating or techno/rave related. My wife thinks its childish but I think it's hilarious to sit in a room full of academics with pristine MacBooks rocking a gaming laptop covered in loud stickers.

    Bay Area shapers?

I think this is an accurate take. I've had a few Vernors when I lived out there and they worked but the custom experience didn't leave me that excited to go back. His biggest draw was always price, responsiveness and quick turn around. Then he started raising prices and getting more orders and...

Help me pick a new boar(s)

Yeah I agree with MathD. If you ask Javier from XTR he'll tell you to go 0.5L lower but I've just ordered whatever dims I would have gotten in PU. Half a liter is like 1/32" of thickness on a normal board lol. XTR feels and floats much more like PU than EPS does to me.

Help me pick a new boar(s)

Yeah I can totally believe it's a fun board! Based on stock dims to get in my volume range I'd be looking at a 5'5-6" MG which is crazy short vs a 5'9" P2 (or for comparison a 5'8" Phantom). Jon I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to this thread :shaka:
