We were fortunate to see some resident killer whales pass by when we visited our friends in San Juan island. They were doing research at Friday harbor labs for the summer and hadn't seen any in the 2 months that they were staying. We came out for one day and saw them right away, haha.

Here's a rare photo of the very shy and reclusive Short-Legged Heron, seen only by the most intrepid photographers, in this case my friend Karen Wasilenchuk.
Either that, or this Heron figured out that if it imitated the posture of a Swan, a non-fish-eating bird, some fish would be less wary and swim within reach.
