i think we're central
Just got a 6'3" album moonstone with futures boxes and the fin rec is something like the FCS modern keel as opposed to a traditional upright fin (of which I have a bunch)

any thoughts of what would be best in futures? I was looking at the true ames lovelace piggyback/keel or the captain fin christenson or cf keels

will be riding as a stepup mostly so looking for a glass fin

I'd experiment with fins that are more upright and that have more rake. I'm biased because I have these all in the fin quiver but here's what I'd start with.

rake option: https://www.surfnvs.com/collections/apex-twins/products/album-twin-apex
upright option: https://shaperssurf.com/asher-pacey-5-55-twin-fin-cool-grey-1/
something in-between: https://needessentialseu.com/products/torren-martyn-hand-foiled-twin-fin-surfboard-fins

I'm loving the asher pacey set in my Christenson lane splitter. I'm pretty sure the need essentials set is what my MOTE Fiji came with which works great with the round tail / channels.

I've been giving the Lovelace Piggy Back Keels a go ... have tried in 3 different boards now .... the more i ride them the more i am liking them ... especially in barreling conditions.

I've only tried those in my wills fish but I've been meaning to give them a shot on other boards. Just revisited the specs and they're really not that big. Could definitely work on a round pin twin.

using the new FCS II MF 2+1 on a mayhem rad ripper I feel like i am missing bite when turning.
any suggestions on maybe replacing the rear fin with something else? or should I just get used to this set

That's where I'd start. Slightly bigger rear fin.

it's not the fins :monkey:

Sticky on takeoffs? Can't say I've ever noticed a fin holding me back on the take off, maybe paddle harder next time and push on the rail and it won't feel so "sticky"

Had the F8 blackstix for a while and while they rode decently I prefer a thinner tipped fin for better release. Riding the JJF Tech Flex large in small wave boards now and it feels much nicer. The freestone fin is pretty much an FCS peformer rip off and does well for me in normal HP shapes also
It seems to me that certain fin configurations can cause a suction effect at the tail of the board when pushing the nose down on takeoff, hence the "sticky" feeling

Have those Shaper's fins; tried them in my twinsman and was too much fin for me but could be perfect in a bigger board. Will give them a go!

I'm using the Captain Fin Christenson honeycomb keels in mine and it feels perfect. My moonstone's a deep swallowtail though.

Been running them in my round pin twin last couple of sessions ... working really well .... today had a couple of well overhead bombs .... they held really well - felt solid and in control while going really fast..... it's weird seems like the bigger the conditions the better they work.

I'd recommend pull ups to help propel yourself faster onto the wave, should be the remedy. If that doesn't work maybe push ups to help you get the nose of the board angled down correctly for a swift drop in :roflmao:

Tech weenies ruined surfing

Your 1/16" too thin, thick, wide or narrow surfbort isn't stopping you from surfing like Mick Fanning

I've never felt a fin holding me back on a take off, a pencil neck weak biotch might fare differently

Asked for some fin advice for this board in another thread, and @Senor Sopa suggested I move the centre fin all the way back.
I did that, and today rode the board in OH, if slightly junky, lefts. Went so much better, and actually turned more like a shorter board, which surprised me.

Thank you, Sopa! Much appreciated.

Hard to tell in pic but I think unless this solved all problems I would line back fin front edge with sidebite back of fin edge:shrug:kinda looks like you have it set up that way but hard tell in pic.

That's what I sort of aimed for at first (in the pic above). Then - on Sopa's advice - I jammed the fin all the way back in the box, and it transformed the board. All of a sudden I could really surf it on rail.

Christenson keels work great on that board.
