The irony of all this selective shutdown is what pisses off most small business.

You can go to Wal-Mart, Costco, Home Depot, etc; with 100's of people inside wandering aimlessly. With a mask of course.

You can go to a supermarket where 100's of people are touching everything multiple times. With a mask of course.

But you can't go to a barbershop sitting inside one at a time, with a mask on. Or a restaurant where every other table is closed and no more than 10-20 people max inside. Even outside in some cities.

This whole lockdown is favoring the big corpos and punishing/pummeling small business (their last competitors) to their deaths.

This is a HUGE big win for big corpos taking even more share of their already large pieces of pie. No wonder Wall St is on fire.

Where's that article ifall linked a few months ago about socialists not needing small business to succeed anymore?
We don't need mom and pop shops anymore.

LOL!!!!! This from the guy who site statistics show posts 16 posts per day to my 12. Not to mention the number of stupid threads you start.

By the way, my kids are grown. How about yours? Pretty sure based on the things you've PMed me you have young children. I wonder if they feel neglected.

Hal, perhaps you should take a step and re-evaluate things. You're too young to be spending almost 30% more time on this website than an old fart like I does. Do it for the children.

Only a dumbass democrat is mad when the government lets people or businesses keep more of the money they've earned.
Do you now have, or have you ever had a huge ass TRUMP flag on your lawn?

Of course big corpos own those businesses. But a vast majority of those businesses are owned by small business.

Those big corpos that own the Supercuts and Applebees are widely diversified into other business and likely writing off losses.

It's places like my local barber and Eat At Joe's in Redondo that take it up the ass in all this.

A John Wayne Special breakfast in a styrofoam or cardboard box doesn't quite cut it. Let alone a nice steak and lobster or king crab dinner with a glass of wine or cocktail re-heated in the oven or microwave by the time it gets to your house from your favorite non-corpo owned restaurant.

This. If you've ever dreamed of owning a restaurant, do a quick google search on the average profit margins or how to calculate food costs if you want to have your dreams crushed. Or the amount of profits that are dependent on alcohol sales, commercial rent costs, labor cost, etc. Very few restaurants have net profits that can beat the S&P 500, so from an investment standpoint you are better off putting your money in the stock market. It's a passion business.

The marginal cost of buying your own sandwich or burrito is maybe $2-5 more than making your own, which is why many people won't bother with it and those restaurants continue to do okay. With a rib eye steak or a lobster, you are talking far more, and very few will pay that premium to eat it from a styrofoam box. Therefore they will either cook steak at home or go without.

Plus, the decrease in office worker lunch traffic and business related travel/entertainment is probably taking a huge toll as well. I expense roughly $5k/year worth of that, and I travel and entertain far less and on a smaller budget than a lot of folks out there who have similar jobs. That is money that is simply not being spent and cannot be recouped at a later date.

Yes, we have a couple business parks near my house that are a huge chunk of afternoon traffic for a lot of small restaurants near us. Many had a fair amount of take-out biz already, as they're not all high-end "experience" restaurants, but nice to sit down at the sushi bar or drink bar waiting to be seated or just eat at the bar if crowded. Those days are gone for most.

It's weird though, I've noticed at least 2 bar/restaurants in this one high traffic main street intersection area near us that is doing indoor business. They're kind of sports bar oriented, and I see people inside eating/drinking with big screens all blazing football or what-ever (just this last weekend). One time I saw a chalk-board out front proclaiming they were a "protest" site as per CA regs that "protests" are still allowed. Proclaim your site as a protest and you're good? These both have large indoor open areas, so maybe the reduced % inside is still OK? Not sure if some cities are looking the other way at these businesses, unless someone ratz on them and files a Karen complaint?
