My students will often tell me I should do stand up.

But I can't do canned material.

It feels too artificial.

But that is what stand up is.

The good stand up is a good story teller, which I'm not.

I love getting into trouble, the painting of oneself into a corner, not knowing what to do, and defusing the situation with repartee.

It's thrilling.

I notice a lot of standup comedians learn vocal tone and pacing and can get by on that.

The actually content of the jokes are not funny.

And yet they make a living.
