I would feel self conscious calling someone "Davo."

I guess I could desensitize and get used to it.

It's usually not that punch that kills you. It's when your head hits the concrete.

Condolences to Davos family/

Man dies; another charged over alleged assault - South West Rocks
Sunday, 25 September 2022 08:47:49 AM

A man has died, and another man has been charged following an alleged assault on the state’s mid north coast overnight.

Shortly after 11pm (Saturday 24 September 2022), emergency services were called to Sportsmans Way, South West Rocks, after reports a man had allegedly been punched to the face outside a licenced premises and fell to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement.

Officers from Mid North Coast Police District attended and located a 45-year-old man unconscious.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Kempsey Hospital, where he died a short time later.

A crime scene was established, which will be examined by specialist forensic officers this morning.

Following inquiries, a 42-year-old man was arrested at a home in South West Rocks about 12.40am and was taken to Kempsey Police Station.

He was charged with assault causing death and refused bail to appear before Port Macquarie Bail Court today (Sunday 25 September 2022).

This stupidity will probably pretty much take two lives and leave two sets of families and friends damaged.

I'm guessing this was a case of two people under the influence people going outside to settle their differences.

Damn.

Chris Davidson was sick. Peaked early in the late 90's as a wildcard, got tapped for the search, the resurrected himself as exactly the character the CT needed at the time in the late 00s. I was a fan. A blue collar, magnetically charismatic, tragedy laden, late bloomer to the CT with a chip on his shoulder to smoke the top guys. And sometimes, he pulled it together and did just that. What an awful, and totally on brand way to go.

Kind of a sick era in general in retrospect

A long time ago, we were hanging out on a street corner at night near a bunch of bars and my friend said something to a big drunk guy twice my age who was <redacted>. The guy said something back and, being much younger, I foolishly "fact checked" him. He then tried to get in my face with his friend holding him back and me telling him, "Stay back - I don't want to fight." Quickly the guy made it around his friend and got right in my face. I had been training a lot of muay thai and my elbow just came out into the guy's right jaw, lifting his chin and knocking him out stiff. The back of his head smacked the pavement making a sound you can't un-hear - kind of a crack and a splatter at the same time. I ran away telling the guy's friend I didn't want to fight in the first place. My friends stuck around and apparently he was still out when the ambulance arrived. The nearby Lebanese store owner told the cops I was defending myself and I never heard anything else about it. Providentially, the guy did not die, I guess.

The point is I came very close to having a very different life outcome over something extremely stupid. Keep your mouth shut, walk away from social violence. Asocial violence is a different story.

Yeah, stick to leg kicks and body shots.
The problem is you never know how things will escalate in social violence:

Excuse yourself from social violence - shake your head, say you're over it or simply apologize, and walk away.

Asocial violence requires the most-violent and accurate response you can produce. Use verbal skills to assess if the situation is asocial, "Hey - stay back. Don't come any closer." Someone trying to hurt you will ignore this. At that stage, you must finish the guy.

Yeah, stick to leg kicks and body shots.
When I was 17, at a high school party I had someone take a wild right swing at me. Osoto gari/hip throw. I stuffed the swing and reflexively threw him. There was no decision or thought. No time. The first thing that hit was the back of his head. I rode him down and landed on top of him. Saw his eyes roll back and he started posturing. I freaked. I'd killed him. I ran. Curled up on the beach crying. My life was over. A few hours later someone found me. After ten minutes the guy had come-to and got up. We saw him the next day, so he lived. The conflict happened outside. He landed on a wooden deck. By pure chance. It was concrete a few feet over. A few feet to the left and he would have died.

What had happened was this guy was drunk, obnoxious and not invited. Someone told him if he didn't leave I would kick his ass and pointed me out. He walked over and took a swing at me with no conversation. I knew nothing re what had happened, but I saw him walking towards me with that look in his eyes.

At 17, I was a chimpanzee. Dumb. My whole life could have changed in those few seconds. Alcohol and ego has killed more than a few of us.

That is heavy. Realistically, what else were you supposed to do? You were sucker punched. If he didn't want his head beaten with the planet, maybe he shouldn't be swinging? But Karen the DA thinks that you're somehow supposed to use some fancy 3-step sequence to lay him down gently and pin him, so when there's a body - she assumes - there's a crime.

The funny part is the crowd told him where to get his assed kicked and that's exactly what happened haha.

When I saw the news about his passing this exact moment came to mind. Portugal if I'm correct. He just witnessed the king pull a huge alley oop in a time not many people were sticking them. He was paying his respect even though getting smoke in the semis. This is how I will remember Davo.
