What ideology?
Are you really asking this? You've gone at length about the woke crap you deal with. You're playing dumb at this point.

I think it's funny when people talk about the break down of civil discourse on social media on social media.

By being able to complain about it you undermine your premise.
I can complain about it safely because I am somewhat anonomous on an obscure subforum populated primary by white dudes. I also work in an industry where the average person thinks "lets go brandon" is the funniest thing since Blazing Saddles, so even if it did get back to my employer it would reflect worse on them for canning me.

That's not true for everyone, and plenty of people have lost their jobs in woke witch hunts.

You poor thing.

So persecuted, always.

Must be tough being a white, straight man, working as a "scienctist" in the Lets Go Brandon world.

It's amazing that in the age of Google, morons like you still exist.

Like, imagine if you actually had to go to the library and spend hours in order to learn what communism is and how it worked?

Hard to imagine you'd be actually stupider.
Hi.
In Russia after the Revolution of May 1917, say August 6, 1917.

You still with me?

There were lots of people (yet to be murdered by communist) publicly critical of THE COMMUNIST'S.

Still here? Just checkin'!

A good many years went by while you could still pull this off without being disappeared, sent to the gulag's, starved to death (see: Ukraine) or otherwise murdered.

This is Communism/Socialism/Fascism* in action.

*which is only a slightly less stupid iteration of Socialism

There is no overall trend of coercing compliance.
Theres no uniform ideology.
I've posted countless examples of this. Humanities and social science departments at universities are almost exclusively liberal, where they lock themselves in their protected ivory tower and push their ideas further out to the fringe. Plenty of people have been attacked and had harassment and smear campaigns levied against them for questioning the diatribe. For example, an evolutionary biology professor at Harvard who ***gasp*** refuses to use the term birthing persons.

There is deliberate misinformation intended to promote disunity.
Who is calling for books about homosexuality to be banned?
Is not spending taxpayer dollars to books for a public school "banning"? Even if it is, I'm not advocating for that ilk or anything they stand for either.

When backed into a corner, resort to wutaboutism :roflmao:

So you are saying you don't have problem.

But you are worried about other people?

Who?

The woke crap I deal with is just the admins.

But the admins always gave me crap.

The new feature is tech and social media.

In my job I always had to watch what I say because I don't have tenure and I have control over people's grade.

That was a feature long before this latest trend hit.

There was time when people said, don't talk religion and politics in mixed company.

That's so easy to do.

I would be at my girl frined's parents having dinner and her step dad would say "I know you liberals don't want to hear this but blah, blah blah."

And we would both not say anything.

It was funny.

No, I don't have a problem. However the breakdown in civil discourse and the widening ideological divide in this country does affect all us. It gives an outsized voice to the psychopaths on the extremes who hold the middle 80% hostage. Especially in a 2 party dominated system where the candidates push each other further out to the extremes, where nothing of value is achieved for important issues that are important to all of us (health care, infrastructure, education etc) because they are too busy arguing about stupid culture wars crap.

I don't disagree from a traditional sense. However you don't get there by savings nickels working at McDonalds anymore. With new tech and gig work there are infinitely more hustles and ways to invest now than there were even 5-10 years ago. Save some scratch and roll it into a condo or independent business and build it up from there. It's been done, and it's still being done. The best way to fight the man is to play his game and keep your piece on the board. If you resign to never playing, you've already lost.

It's the stacking of the regulatory deck by congress and government in favor of the billionaires that should concern all of us.
Tech gig work is not a ticket to the middle class. Most of these "side hustle" apps are just innovative ways to sidestep employment laws and regulations. How many people are Uber Eating their way into the middle class? Since you need to own a car to even drive for Uber in the first place it's more likely that many people are driving for them as their second or third job just to avoid sliding into poverty.

My argument isn't that climbing the ladder is impossible and that you shouldn't have to work to succeed. My argument is that it is a lot harder to climb from the bottom than it used to be, regardless of how hard you work. This is supported by the numbers. It is a structural problem.

"Fighting the man, hustling, keeping your piece on the board, rolling your scratch into a condo". This language reminds me of some child-of-oligarch's instagram page full of motivational investment quotes. #hustle #strive

You're thinking too small. Beyond that, gig work is a great way to earn some cash while you go to school to pick up marketable skills. I wish it was around when I was in grad school, it would've helped me out big time.

I agree. Yet we still have more people trying to move to the US than any other country in the world, so it must be working for them.

Exactly.

The "countless examples" of people who lost their jobs because they refused to be "coerced" is a lie.

Those who did, lost their jobs because they were being assholes on social media and elsewhere, not because they refused to be coerced.

The level of pettiness you must have to think that a trivial issue like this is destroying society, is off the charts.

We had admins come in and talk about teaching anti racism.

I told them that the OC DT students would be complaining in the Dept right away if we did that.

That is the funny thing.

The right wingers are just as likely to cry foul as the wokesters. And there are lots of OC republicans where I work.

I've never talked politics in the classroom.

Too much work to do.

But I have disagreed with the wokesters using a very civil tone and its fine.

So you are comparing the 2022 US to the 1917 pre-communist Russia?

Got it.

It totally makes sense now.

Maybe this is part of the issue, too. IIRC, I recall the "American Dream" being a job, spouse, 2.3 kids, nice house in suburbia, a Golden Retreiver named Bella. Seems like now it's to be a millionaire.
I think to have a nice house in suburbia and raise 2.3 kids, you pretty much need to be a millionaire

what if we didn’t argue about it
what if we ignored it, unless it effected us directly
and what if , when it directly affected you, you just referred to someone the way they wanted, and left it all behind
what if you just didn’t give a f about it and said “them”

probably most of the people shrieking about having to use pronouns that aren’t the sames ones they used a few years ago, most aren’t directly affected

focusing on healthcare infrastructure and education makes sense
why can’t people just say them and move onto the important stuff

because stupid social contagions like this should be mocked, relentlessly. It makes society better when there are checks and balances. Especially since there is a sizable ilk that refuses to even discuss the merits of it (because there arent any) and calls you transphobic for even questioning it (these threads case in point).

I guess The Merit is allowing some outcasts and weirdos to feel less like outkasts and maybe less hated without hiding

remember when you asked why I thought you were right leaning?
maybe I’m just noticing it more now, but lately you’re arguing fox talking points alot

not judging as much as pointing out why I would put you as a righty on that chart

What if undue concern with trivial matters wasn't a thing that runs some people's lives.

What if people weren't spiteful and small-minded.

What if

not my job. Everybody deserves a basic level of human respect but it’s not my responsibility to refer to myself in an obvious and asinine manner to make you feel better about yourself.

I wouldn’t know because I don’t watch Fox News. Either way I will always take the side of free speech and more discourse over being told what to say and believe. Free speech used to be a left wing position
