Im hovering over a 5’6 fish (twin) @28lt that looks pretty capable in the turn department but it’s online so I can’t feel it up.

I ride a 6’0 @28lt, shorty.

I don’t want to highline Chicama with my ankles touching and my topknot whistling in the breeze. I want to rail it and knife into hollow beachies. I’m after as much performance as I can get from the genre.

Can anyone here confirm that this is visionary sh!t?

Some guys use the same volume, some use more. I have some that work great both ways. If the vol is roughly in the ballpark, I worry more about how its distributed (rails, rocker, bottom contour..)

For me, I'd love to rip jicama and a lot of other places I'll never go, haha. I would not want a low-volume board for the paddle though...because I'm lazy and I think it may be the longest wave in the world? plus kinda looks slopey. Maybe go same go HP volume but thick rails

I won’t tell you what to do….But if you have enough time to order a board, look into a CI Skinny Fish. That’s what I took to Chicama and it worked perfectly there and at The Cape. It’s a slopey wave and you don’t want too much performance from a fish there. But the Skinny Fish fits the wave perfectly, has plenty of rocker with a generous tail width and thinner foil. I went longer on the Spine-Tek to make sure I still had fun during the small days

You’re either walking back or putting $10 into the pot for hiring a Zodiac. For $10 per sesh, the Zodiac is always an absolute no brainer

Chicama and hollow beachies sound like different goals but I've liked most of the alt shapes I've had at shortboard volume. The one exception has been non-concave boards. IMHO those need more volume and a reduction in rocker.

Thanks for the input everyone. I reckon it’d be safe but something has popped up locally that I’ll have a look at todpay.

Basically I’m always lurking around looking for pop outs at bargain prices just to scratch the twin pin, fish, flavour of the month itch cheap. I haven’t fully recovered from not getting a round nose dual from Tomo back in the day, so this is giving me something to think about in the shower.

Ah Chicama.…I did a couple of stints there almost 15 years ago with a slight step down shorty. Not quite the right board but I made do.

. The boat wasn’t there for the most part, but I was fit, had muscles in my sh!t and like to do things the hard way…so I ran the point every time. Even though I did get some very long waves mostly I paid it off in instalments paddling hard to hold on to a section for a couple of waves at a time. Now I’m a foiler, well holy fck. That place is nirvana

If I was going back to Peru anytime soon I’d gat a nice custom, having seen there for the first time ever that a fish would be useful in the quiver.

I’d go more in line w a “performance“ twin instead of traditional fish.

In powerful, hollow beach break - trad fish are Great for…. out running the barrel ;)

Even if sized n shaped for max performance trad fish are the wrong call for these conditions IMO. I love trad fish, and I have friends that rip and are stone-cold fish people but they grab diff equipment when surfing these conditions.

Sooooo, I ended up getting a rusty trad fish a few minutes ago.…because instant gratification and I’ve though about one for years. Also a good price, very well made, free set of T1’s and GG friendly fin position around 6”. I also like that it doesn’t have a huge arsecrack.

Im sorted for my next trip to Chicama I guess. Will have to turn up some local slopey ones.

5’5 x 20 1/2 x 2 5/16 = 30.92 litres.
