I love Yell at this price, and just bought some more. these Macro headwinds (high gas prices and Russia war) will eventually fade. It's the same company as it was before the war and the spike in gas prices
I don't have a complete understanding of trucking as it stands now...between the shortage of truckers, shortage of diesel, maintenance costs + whatever the hell is going on with the national economy and macroeconomy and inventories I'm too scared to touch it.

I'm hearing names like JB Hunt and Schneider National are still poised to do well, I would imagine Yellow would follow, I just can't put together the why when coupled with headwinds.

When I see air freight was down 10% in May I'm not sure how it translates but I can't see that being a positive. East Coast and West Coast are seeing a decline in traffic - that can't be all China lockdown related.

I also saw maritime shipping futures contracts for 2023 being higher than 2022. Go figure.

interesting bit from Investopedia's newsletter:

1/
Bulls Call on the Doctor
Copper is a critically important procyclical asset. It depicts risk-seeking behavior and acts as an excellent barometer for global growth and overall market health.

Today, copper futures rallied 5.30%, printing the largest daily gain since May 2013. We call this a bullish momentum thrust. These extreme readings tend to precede rallies and often occur at the birth of new bull cycles.

Regarding copper, when I get some spare cash I don't mind losing, I should buy about 10 shares each of the 10 biggest copper producers (that are listed on USA markets) in a ROTH IRA. It would be my own little ETF with less maintenance fees associated with it.

I may have said something like this before.

I think FCFS might be worth grabbing.

It's a pawn shop chain that's international and pays a dividend.

Pretty sure it's unique for it's kind - I've searched quite a bit and haven't found anything like it.

As a bonus, they also run payday loans in Texas and melt scrap jewelry.

I like both the pawn exposure - they tend to do well in recessions and I'm sure there's plenty of stuff people bought with stimmy checks they'll be looking to pawn.

I like the exposure to payday loans too - household savings just hit their lowest level since 2008 and credit card spending has made a big jump as well.

Perhaps you could skip all that retail usury, cut out the middle men, and just put some money out on the street, 10% vig due weekly?

if he walks, isn't that an implicit admission that their fake account issue is much larger than they have previously stated?

seems like a good time to short Twitter...

Short position taken out today?

I do like a stated position. Makes the bragging and subsequent admiration that much better!
Using the Proshares ETF.

I feel confident enough to hold.

btw, I have no idea WTF I'm doing.

If you want to get more specific, I don't think SARK is such a bad idea at this moment either, I'm just having trouble believing there is more downside, even though I know there is more downside...

Just every time Cathie Wood opens her mouth I'm thinking "Who in their right mind would let this woman manage their money?" and thinking what's bound to go bad could go even worse.

Spirit ($22 per share) has a board meeting at the end of the week to vote on the Frontier buyout offer. if the majority of stock holders reject it, the Jet Blue tender offer ($31.50 per share) would be a lock, (in which case Frontier will probably up their offer). if it's accepted, Spirit and Frontier stock should pop. if it all falls thru, reverse breakup fees are $3.20/share from JetBlue or $2.30/share from Frontier. it's been a fun stock to swing trade over the last couple weeks, bouncing around from $17-$22 per share - should trend upwards, imho, for a few more weeks while Jet Blue and Frontier get in a bidding war for Spirit.

Edited for clarity

Warren grilled Yellen on fact our tax filing system is way too complicated for Americans.

She asked Yellen to commit to creating a free tax filing system and making it easy for users to fill out a simple form and done. Yellen refused to answer the question straight up and refused to commit to making a truly 'free tax filing'.

Warren also grilled Intuit and other tax companies about their misleading advertising for 'free filing' ads.

Warren plans to reintroduce a "Tax filing simplification act"

.

Live Finance Committee meeting today.

you would think Yellen could come out swinging for that one - it's a no-brainer, she's not an elected official, she should not be beholden to any tax prep company for any reason, she doesn't need their political contributions etc :foreheadslap:

Yellen has been paid millions by major investment / capital firms for speaking engagements. She in the backpocket of the big firms.
