I wish you could/would flesh this thought out some more.
Many wars that US have been involved either alone, or through NATO, started because the West rushed to recognize independence of a country which was not ready to be independent YET.
Much deliberation and negotiation was needed before any of it.
The complex ethnic, historic, cultural and religious issues always get pushed to the side, in favor of the simplistic thinking that any group in any region that seeks independence, should be granted independence right away.
Bosnia is the prime example of a new country that wasn't ready.
All that suffering and death could have been avoided if the West didn't recognize its independence right away and instead went to the negotiating table with all three ethnic groups involved first.
The naivety of invading Iraq and expecting to be showered with roses as liberators.
Then getting offended that we didn't and suddenly discovering that Sunni Arabs, Shiite Arabs, Sunni Kurds, Assyrians, Yazidis and Turkmen exist.
Kosovo was/is a disaster.
I could go on but I think you get the point.
