Here's the salarytable for LAUSD teachers. $85,000 after ten years teaching and with 98 post graduate units. And the 98 units does not include the units for the 2 years post baccalaureate (and student teaching) needed to get a credential. $93,000 after 30 years and a phd.

Teachers are not 1%ers.

Pointless units and credentialism are clearly not correlated with learning outcomes per the NAEP. This probably actually selects for dumber teachers who can't compute the costs and benefits of these extra units. They have this in the military also for O-5 and O-6 selection and clearly our senior officers are only getting dumber and more craven. I would scrap this and give prospective teachers a g-loaded standardized test and a moral screening.
That would be shocking if I didn't hear middle school kids talking like that all the time. The woman's son was in high school and I guarantee he has heard worse. Or maybe not. I didn't teach in the bible belt.
It sounds like you're arguing that because minors already act awful, it's ok for their teachers to act as badly as if those who teach have no obligation to set the example. Is that what you're saying?
university of phoenix creditz lolz.
For Profit U except there are no learning outcomes and you still can't fix anything like when you graduate WyoTech.

as usual, not following the thread

the book is in a library, it is not being taught in any curriculum

the library in question is in texas. california salary information is irrelevant

the book got put in to a library probably because it won an award and no one actually read the thing, maybe the person responsible for the book being put in the library makes over 100k

the problem is that Havoc said teachers are teaching this while also making 100k which is double false

in fact, as lillibel points out, CA teachers don't even make 100k

he also points out that the controversial content in the book is not any worse than what the kids who are able to check this book out of the library are already trafficking in themselves.

you fkn whingers are stupid, full of lies, and seem to get confused by your own whinging

Can't wait to see test results / success rates as parents decide that they are really good at teaching and know stuff and are well equipped to explain concepts over long periods of time.

What's the goal here?

A moral screening? :foreheadslap: Sounds like the Inquisition. How'd that work out for the Catholic Church? Bet ol' JC didn't see the clergy abuse scandal coming...or did he? I mean, he's God, so he had to see it coming...

ya all my teacher frenz brag about how much they make and how little they do and also how they are gonna retire on full salary. gotta love socialism lolz
I was a teacher for many years and never once heard a colleague brag about how much money they make. On the contrary, they never stop whining about how underpaid they are compared to their friends with engineering and business degrees who own houses, and how they spend nights and weekends working their asses off, and how they don't get Social Security, and on and on. 33% leave the profession within 5 years, a telling statistic.

This is reductio ad absurdum and a dumb evasion. We have a legal doctrine of in loco parentis when it comes to teaching. Despite the fact that we're living in an era of illegitimacy, single-parent households, and collapsed parenting standards, teachers still have to be held to moral standards therefore they need moral screening. Also, they're constantly moralizing values they find positive, just not values most of America agrees with. If there's no common ground for morality upon which we can screen teachers and a moral framework from which they can teach, we need to shut the public schools down.

I work at a university and I have family working the public schools. So I spend a lot of time in both places and this liberal dystopian nightmare you've created in your mind doesn't match my reality.

I tell the kids to come to class, do their work, don't complain and don't be an asshole just because they can.

I am relentless in my moralizing.

Then I try to model the behavior too.

But it's hard. :dancing:

Humans created out of wedlock are perfectly legitimate people. To judge someone otherwise is immoral and unethical.

And you call yourself pro-life.

Inquisitors like using Latin....:waving:

Also. "...just not values most of America agrees with" sounds like a false consensus. I think you meant YOUR values.

Maybe the common ground is the CA Penal Code or the CA Ed Code? Or better yet, how about the Golden Rule? Which, I might add, is better served when you don't demonize single parent households or all those who don't share YOUR values (like maybe LGBTQs?). Remember that other rule? Love your enemies. I don't know, I usually sense so much pent up hate when I come across the ultra religious. Not all of them. I've met some saints, and, like Autoprax said, the reality on the ground that I experienced in 24 years of teaching negates your fear and loathing.

Peace be with you.

ps the first link is a resource I used as a teacher. Maybe the Librarian at the school in Texas ordered the wrong "Lawn Boy?" Compare.

CRT polls badly, but teachers are pushing it in class. On other issues where the public is divided and highly-polarized it makes no sense to push values on kids that a large chunk of parents oppose - abortion, LGTBQ normalization, etc. Public policy requires common ground, not polarization.

Necessary but insufficient. Obviously they need to pass criminal background checks but teachers need to be held to higher standards because they teach youth. It's clear they're not being held to one.

Stop all this. It's hilariously dumb. You don't know the first thing about biblical ethics. It doesn't seem like you've read any of the gospels. Jesus said things that you'd crucify Him for along with the rest of the Sanhedrin/elites.

I notice it's a human inclination to steel man our own ideas and strawman the opposition.

This happens at an intuitive level.

But it happens constantly.

I'm really noticing it in all my interactions now.

You started by arguing that kids hear worse from their peers than teachers so what's the big deal when a teacher acts like a child? I said that teachers have to behave better and need to be screened for moral shortcomings. You argued this would be a new Inquisition but then admitted that teachers have to at least pass a criminal background check and follow the Ed Code, both of which are - on some level - a moral screening. Also, the law requires schools to keep children safe and it's unclear how crazy or immoral teachers can do this. You then argued this was merely my morality despite counter-examples I gave. Really, the morality taught by an increasing number of public school teachers is a form of moral imperialism by an elite minority, much like the Pharisees' system of laws Jesus preached against before his ascension.

Next you tried to use the Golden Rule against me. I can easily show how the Golden Rule - as Jesus actually applied it - makes my case and not yours but I'm done arguing with someone spitballing from stygian ignorance. If you want to read Genesis, one of the gospels, and the book of Romans through chapter 8 and resume this discussion, I'd be happy to. Until then, you have no idea what you're talking about.
