Yes, terrorists forcing there way into cockpits and flying planes into buildings was not a concern pre 9/11, which was about 17 years ago. Highjackings were used to either fly the plane to another location or force the plane into the ground, at worst. Cockpits used to be unlocked, often with the door wide open. Which also explains why someone at a flight school who claiming he did not need to know how to land a plane did not raise any red flags.
