In town, finding waves is pretty easy. Just drive until something looks fun.

Thanks all and for all the PMs too.

Sorry to be absent from my own thread. Been sick and home from work and offline.

Some good ideas here. Abalone, finding those fossils on the low tide sounds amazing! Im gonna try and talk my girls into that. I actually remember going to Capitola and new Brighton as a little kid. Gonna be a trip.

Just hoping my knee is feeling okay by then, or I may be renting a longboard shocked

Actually, seriously though, I might need to rent a couple longboards (for family surf day). I cant fit mine and my family on the drive up. Any suggestions?

With this weather I think you best bet for kids is capitola there are a couple shops around the beach there. Any south facing cove like cowells, or capitola should be safe. There are some nice stores and restaurants on 41st near the hook. Might be scary for kids to walk down the cliff to get to the hook, but if you keep walking down the beach there it mellows out. The boardwalk is fun for kids even in the rain, pretty cool pirate themed mini golf and pool tables inside. There is a surf shop next to cowells too. Pacific ave has a lot of stores and restaurants good for touristing around like a giant street mall. 26th ave should be firing this weekend, there is a shop there too for rentals.

Biggest storm of the year.

Everything is a sh!tfest right now.

Your surf sesh is all dependent on the conditions. South wind, All of Santa Cruz will be blown out.

Local knowledge. If the north points are blown out, go south. Look to the Salinas Valley. Enough said.

Look down to see the fossils where you walk; they're not embedded in the bluffs (that we can see, other than the layers of shells). Here are a few photos to get your marine paleontology eyes focused. It's so cool!

Update for yah...

Storms been moving sand around in a good way - water quality is ugh. Been junky but windows of clean moments. Capitola has a lot of debris on the beach and main beach in SC has needles (flushed out from sl river) so Id avoid that. Pleasure point probably cleanest both waves and water for family surf, for you solo in town plenty options but with the aforementioned caveats. And unless you go north and get lucky.

You got mail.

I was up in Corralitos today.

My brother said he got 10" of rain up there last week.

The SL rivermouth should/could be coming to life.
