Got an EPS/epoxy (not Surftech) Piranha about a month ago as my mediocre wave board (pretty much everyday, aside from a few winter months and better than average Souths) - 5'10 x 2.3 x 19.75 with composite Future 450s. It gets positive marks on wave catching, section making and holding ability, but the thing doesn't turn well. Bogs down on cutties and off-the-lips. No spring or flow through quick directional changes. Wondering whether switching out fins would make a difference or if the stiffness of the materials and lack of outline curve/rocker are too much to overcome. Maybe should have gone the SDII/Flyer route or some other alternative. I know that this is somewhat familiar territory, but any quick thoughts are appreciated.

I've ridden a piranha with twin fins, really fast, loose, and fun board.

Sorry I'm late... there was trouble at the lab with the running and the exploding and the crying...

Boards like the Piranha have wider noses which will bog you down on cut backs and quick turns. It takes getting used to to keep from bogging. Be aware of where the nose is in the water, you probably are using a bit to much rail in your turn. When it's small you have a tendency to have your forward foot moreforward than normal. Try getting off it or moving it back once you have speed.

I've been told many times on this BB that fins drag so i am no longer using them. -Greg Griffin

if u r a good surfer, your pirannah should b shorter than u r.

Thanks all. I'm definitely going to try one of the recommended fin combos.

The Rusty Piranha is crappy. I had a custom Piranha shaped for me last year and I tried every fin combo possible and could not get it to work properly. I ended up selling it and getting a Lost SDII and it catches waves just as good as the Piranha but does everything well that you want a small to medium all around board to do. Sell it and get something else...

I think it may be you and not the board.

lol i agree here... in waist high and up sd II hands down... i also got a piranha, though works a lil better than the sd II in ankle to knee high which has been basically the south bay the last month or so.

Anyone have comments on a few other boards? CI flyer and Lost shark? I'm in the market, trying to get a small to medium wave board for florida surf. i've had a couple fish in the past and a 6'4 shortboard that works great on the bigger days but doesn't float well for the small days.

thanks.

I've got an EPS Piranha as well. I'm using the vector 467's with hatchet combo ( I weigh 205-210) The board is super loose and fun in small waves.
