Has anyone heard of making a board using hemp?
I mean hemp is such a strong material pliable, natural, etc.

Wonder if the weight of hemp would be a significant
factor in creating a cloth for glassing?

Anyone know anything about this?

Hemp is the strongest natural fiber, but it Absorbs water.

Fiberglass is, well glass fibers, and can't absorb anything if it tried.

But hemp is wonderful.

That would be one hell of resin hit.

WAVELITE(RTM) Boards are composed of an EPS Core, Epoxy Rezinz Glass Cloth under a one-piece Hemp (or cotton) cloth outer skin, and after a few weeks curing, are tough, far more than Fibreglass and Polyester Rezin Boards. The epoxy resin does not absorb water, as as Fibreglass does, (causing the yellowing-off of old Fibreglass boards), and their "deadness" of age. They are as Eco- Friendly as can be at present* & the creation process is relatively non-toxic: EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) is made of BENZENE and ETHYLENE, 3:1. Benzene is a steel/coke kilns by-product , from Australian blackcoal; Ethylene comes from ETHANE comes from ETHANE in Australia natural gas. EPS is non-toxic, 96% air and chemical "inert": It is used in Garden Mix and cattle feed. Epoxy resin is non-petro-chemical, also is not a health risk and when properly handled. * All natural Epoxy resins are now becoming available.

I think GWS needs to come up with a package deal: Hemp board, Hemp Hoodlamb jacket, hemp rope leash, hemp boardbag (OK, somebody really oughta make that), and a year's supply of rolling papers. Bundle it all for $599, or $1499 including a one week surf tour of Amsterdam.

Surf unto others as you would have them surf unto you.

lol! I just shipped one large black woman to your door. She comes with the rolling paper dispenser, a secret stash pocket and a three strategically placed Bad Moon stickers.

Have a warm and merry Christmas.

I've seen a few hemp surfboards, the owner of Hempstead, a hemp clothing manufacturer that was once around in OC had one in their shop. I never surfed it, but he did.

I believe there have been problems with the flex with the fiber when immersed in resin - cracking.

There have also been a few aussies that were making the boards, both from hemp and bamboo, but some were ripofffs (surprised surflab didn't get into this).

Hemp is cool, I partnered in retail store that dealt exclusively with hemp products and organic cotton. Unfortunately, it was a short term adventure only lasting a year for me, but it was a very cool experience!

I still have clothes from back then that are holding out and they just keep getting more comfortable.

I love my new Hoodlamb Hemp jacket.

Test run starting Thursday night, living outdoors for a week at a remote Baja point. My Hoodlamb will keep me toasty, the waves will keep me stoked.

For years I felt bad about all the nude ducks whose feathers filled my old down jackets.
With a Hemp Hoodlamb you are free to think of other things
Rain Wind and Cold you look forward to them in Hoodlamb
