My wife recorded me surfing once. We almost got into a fight after I watched it.

Most of the guys in the video seem like adult learners (?)

The boards seem beyond their ability level.

The thing that stood out to me was the lack of flow. Very jerky and all fins no rail.

You can feel it when you’re connected with the wave and when you’re fighting it. Looked like they were fighting it.

Maybe it would have been better to get some Californians out there, not just Inertia readers from Texas.

THat's pretty much what my emoji meant after my post. I feel bad cause they obviously had fun and I'm not usually one to criticism like that but this is a surfboard review show. To me it didn't do much to the review of the boards. One guy was really good but it looks like he had the "there's a camera on me so I'm surfing to hard" deal going on.

My biggest take away was how much Rail Line can benefit smoothness. Something I notice about people (and myself) on stubby boards. Obviously noel has no problem but it made everyone else twitchy.

The guy on that long Pyzel was smoother

It doesn't help that we have been watching the best of the best there as well.
I saw some clips of local Texas people and they looked pretty good on it (pretty sure I saw Hildo!)

I was also wondering if the jerkyness had to do with riding Noel's boards, he rides such tiny foiled out boards. I know when I ride a board from when I was less "hefty" it feels overly sensitive for my new weight. Either way, props to those guys for putting themselves out there, I certainly wouldn't want my wiggles on Noel's show.

Older guy on the Pyzel surfed pretty well and the one other guy also. Wave looks fun and it's cool to see guys doing turns on the wave rather than just pump, pump boosting like all the other footage out there.

I wonder if he's actually a doctor or actually a chiropractor?

Better to learn to surf before “trying moves.”

I see people going for airs and they can’t even do a bottom turn.

I still don’t feel like we’re in the wrong. My local has some rippers but it’s not like it’s hard to get to a level that you understand the pace of the wave. Average day and I see much better surfers out and about as far as the eye can see.

Those guys were adult learners. The tip-off was at the beginning when they were talking flip flops and backpack reviews.

One of these guys at my local would get one set wave and then be rendered to scraps there after.

The only thing I can think of is that he's a cold water transplant and is/was accustomed to wearing them, but it seemed like he and the other "locals" had been surfing there for over a year and a half, so it really doesn't make that much sense to me.

I remember being out at Zippers in Cabo circa 1992 and Jason (Ratboy) Collins was wearing booties. While taking a break from a long session I was talking to Mike Balzer who was shooting Jason and who I knew from living in the South Bay. I was asking who he (Jason) was, since he was the first person I'd seen in person sticking the majority of airs he attempted and why on earth he was wearing booties in 78° water. Balzer said Jason had always worn them and felt "off" not wearing them.

I'm sure there is a great divide between Doc Andy and Jason's board "feel".

I think it's a sun/skin cancer thing. Every time I've been to BSR and seen him he is covered head to toe with either clothing (booties, boardshorts, rashguard) or sunscreen.
