Videos like this remind me why I never want to see myself surf on video. I'm convinced I'm good in my mind. I must be after 30 plus years of surfing. But seeing that I suck on video and look like every other clown would make me want to sell it all, move inland, and start playing tennis.

I remember a long time ago being super disappointed. Not sure if I got better or just faced reality but I've seen myself in my later years and it's about what I'd expect based on feel.

Yeah I know those guys were having fun. The waves look like a blast but it didn't really make me want to try those boards lol.

that was pretty interesting to see average guys on these boards. Agree with Muscles- I shudder to imagine how bad I would look on video. I think Kevin, the tall guy in red, on the yellow Shadow is my best case in a few years. Like Deforest has said about his Soloshot, I'm sure watching video of yourself can really help improve your surfing. Not to go off on a tangent, but I'm curious to try the new Surfline "session" cam feature
Anyway, I'd been eyeing the AstroPop before, but it looks fun under Noel's feet.

I briefly thought about one, but my surfing ego is far too fragile, and decided to surf in ignorance.

LOL. Those would be uh... "frowned upon" at the spots I surf. Wouldn't last one session without being destroyed or stolen. I've messed around with a GoPro in the water, but the POV videos are awful unless you're in a barrel.

I was there Saturday afternoon (I think when they filmed this) and Noel was ripping. It was my first time back in ~9 months after tearing my ACL, getting it reconstructed and going through the rehab process, and I had a BLAST, drove all the way home thinking "man I was ripping!" Came home and checked Surfline rewind to find I was pretty much pumping and laying down lazy turns roflmao but who cares smile Got to ride my Stamps Flare that I ordered and got in late 2018 (!!!) for the first time and was on cloud 9. Stocked!

rad. I'm looking for an opportunity to get there (work can take me there at times) to give it a go. Would love to surf that wave.

Cheers to getting back in the water.

The Choloshot has helped me a lot. Its great to capture moments of surfing before getting any more older than we all already are.. and its fun too see how different boards look when surfing them. I think its a great tool for surfing. "Time and tide wait for no man." - Chaucer

But I do remember the first time I saw myself on video.... it was like looking in the mirror and seeing a donkey instead of a handsome stud like I thought i was! hahaha.

I prefer seeing it. It tells you when you're not squaring up enough or miss timing a move etc.

Q: What’s worse than slow motion surf videos?

A: 19 minute surf videos where the first 7 minutes is footage of bag packing and airport check-ins.

Tough crowd, I thought those old guys surfed well for regular recreational surfers.

Harsh tokes. I was thinking you guys are mean but I can’t say sh*t. I say way harsher things to my dawn patrol friends. Saw a buddy get caught behind on a nugget and I just shook my head and told him why even bother standing up. Haha

Yeah that guy Noel rips so its hard for me to tell if a board model is elevating his surfing. The regular dudes look like they were having a blast. Good for them. I always wonder if I would have fun in a wave pool. Some of my friends who rip told me Kelly’s pool was hard to surf. BSR looks really fun. I’d still rather go to Fiji for a surf trip or get Bowls firing but if a wave pool gets built here I’d go.

My friends are harsh too. If I kook it or barrel dodge they’ll find it on the rewind cam and I’ll see on a group email.

^ yep. Just thinking about how the usual crew would treat these guys at the local.

I’d like to believe I surf better than the Dr. I’ll admit the footage I’ve seen of myself is limited and photos don’t tell the whole story, but I also know what it feels like to butcher a wave backside and that’s the sensation I got watching each of the Dr’s waves.
