Journal? roflmao

And when I have long enough hair to worry about brushing I am a fan of the WET brush line but that's neither here nor there.

My essentials are

Boardshorts (wetsuits if its not a warm place)
Flip flops
One pair of normal shoes
Glasses and sunglasses (I am blind)
Immodium.

Linen shirt/pants

Good call. I have a super thin linen short sleeve button up shirt I bought on a trip that stays nice and cool in hot climates. Having trouble finding a replacement though, as its starting to falling part banghead
Chest pockets are super useful too for holding cash computer

Reminds me of my backpacking checklist list I update each year. Everything gets laid out, pic taken, and taken into photoshop where everything is numbered, categorized (first aid, cooking/fire, toiletries, etc), color coded and listed. There are 80-100 individual items that get checked every time I go. The items are put into different waterproof colored bags by category and fit into a 68L backpack and last time I weighed it was just over 26lbs. Fishing stuff adds a few lbs.

Not her 7, just my, "on the go" essentials

Knife
Silky folding saw
Black Diamond 500 lumens headlamp w/extra batteries
cotton & vaseline mix w/ lighter
Sawyer squeeze water filter & 1Ltr Smart water bottle
10 x 12 tarp w/ 100 feet of zing-it line
Blackbird XLC hammock
Amoxicillin 800mgs, Ibuprofen 850mgs, Doxycillin 100mgs, Imodium.
cotton shorts, long sleeve rash guard, Merrill water shoes, polarized sunglasses & hat
Wood burning Solo stove LIte w/ cook pot & lid, spoon
Packit Gourmet backpacking meals

*my grab n' go bag* Always with me on trips "Anywhere" approx 12+ lbs in a 30 ltr backpack or small roll-a-way case.

though "rubbah slippahs" are preferred, when wet, they suck walking in them for any long-distance, hence my choice for Merrill lite, water shoes
(not fashion-conscious, just overall practical)

Picked up one of those Sawyer squeeze filters before my last hiking trip. It worked great! Won't go many places without it. Very handy and quick to use.

Damn solid list there overall, PPK.

Leatherman

Anti-itch cream

Outlet adapter with multiple USB charging ports built in

Sewing kit (have literally sewn my suitcase back together after a seam exploded zipping it all up the night before an int’l flight home)

Gauze + “KT” tape (works better than any bandaid I’ve ever used in a humid place)

Bose headset for ignoring the yokel in the seat next to you on the flight home.

More than one credit/bank cards and say $200 cash

roflmao Some of those PCT trail videos "what's in my 12lb pack" are hilarious. I have some premium lightweight stuff but definitely the kind who rips off sleeping bag tags and cuts their foam sleeping pad etc to save ounces (I admit my toothbrush is cut in down but only so it fits in the toiletry bag).

I usually carry fishing stuff and it adds weight. My favorite spot I go is about 8 miles in and I pack wading boots, waders and fishing gear(2 rods, reel, spare spool, hip pack with flies, etc) . It starts feeling really heavy on the way back if everything is wet, and the very last portion to the trailhead is straight uphill out of a canyon. Full on leg burner.

Switched from the Sawyer squeeze bag to the gravity one last year. It's bigger but so far more efficient especially at camp when you want to boil water and down a lot of fluids. https://www.rei.com/product/849794/platypus-gravityworks-water-filter-system-kit-2-liter

I laugh at my wife for essential (snake) oil addiction but they really took the sting out of my sea lice welts. They always get me.

Lavender oil worked better than all 3 OTC things i had.

What's a surf trip?

Go to the tropics and try and wear underwear and walk a mile. You’ll ditch them, too.

I lived three years in the tropics, 8 degrees off the equator. Everyone wore underwear. But I guess if you're on a surf trip you live in trunks....

I first learned, from some rippers back in '78,
that wearin' undies ain't happenin, especially under board~shortz that ya wear allll day long.
Not happenin', no, no, no, no undie rash from walkin' from Rubber Duckies up to Rocky Point
and then surfin' for hours upon hours at aged 16, when you'se on Thee North Shore,
by yer~self, hahaha!

Ah, 'walkin'

All thee chickz, err girlz, err, women I've dated have luved my salty ballz, since then, hahaha
But they no seem to like smelly, sweaty nutz from me wearin' undie's out on thee town
nor seein' any chaffing around my schlong if I had to walk 500, ya know?
Nope, nope, nope...

Maybe if you live there you adjust to the humidity but coming from SD, I swampass so hard. Those shorts that are made like board shorts but have pockets and look “normal” changed my life. I’m thinking of working in some capacity the tropics, not just hanging out sipping drinks after a surf.

Surfboard and 2 sets of fins.

That’s 7.

So call is a big contrast to the tropics.

Plus who is used to surfing 6 hours a day for days in a row.

Bug bites suck. That’s all I have to say about that.

It really does

I've gone and visited my wife's family in Michigan and went into a whole histamine fit because of all the bug bites. Stuffy nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, cough

Well, never thought I'd see the day, but my Yoga mat needs to come with, to keep me surfing. I'm becoming and old prick and my back hurts like hell, often, so the yoga mat is a must.

immodium is a real smart move

tums, too.

if there are bugs there, there will be bug spray, too and it's
generally cheaper than buying it in the states.

headlamp!

lots of fin keys, finbox screws, extra leash string, wax.

Bug head net will keep you from going completely totally insane when it's buggy, hot and they want to drink from your eyes, ears, nose, forehead etc.
DEET for the shoes, ankles and wrists, one of these for the face and neck.

https://seatosummitusa.com/products/mosquito-head-net-insect-shield

Two things I bring from that article but aren't remotely essential:
Vitamins. One bottle with assorted things like multi vitamin, potassium, etc etc.
Gopro - Love filming underwater, doesn't matter if it's in the ocean or a river.

For super off the grid trips especially if I'm by myself, a ResQLink PLB. A snake bite, bad injury, or pushing the button for someone else might be the best $300 ever spent in your pack.

Amazon ~ "Sawyers insect repellant for clothes / ticks and mosquitos

Hell yeah on the "face net" ~

Garmin ~ Has two different PLB's> a mini version and a regular, larger, Personal Locator Beacon
Most long distance hikers seem to be carrying them on the AT, the PCT, CDT, etc.

https://youtu.be/4CkTyJKsQNM

This guy just used his Garmin InReach to get choppered out from an Oregon Trail from a back injury.

https://youtu.be/gCHUKE04dBc Go to 4.07 whee the helicopter drops the EMT and helo guy on the ground.
