Not an effort at crowd control but there has been recent testing for toxic chemicals in the Tijuana River. Up until the last year so, testing was primarily for fecal coliform and total coliform. That may be the the least of the worries and risk.

Testing was in both wet and dry periods. There may be a year round risk with surfing IB.

If you dont have health insurance with no or low deductibles, you are going to pay dearly if you get sick.

If you go to near Mexico you will die

There's 60,000 homeless people shitting in the streets in Los Angeles.

That's a small cities sewage output getting dumped in the ocean untreated.

No doubt there is a shitton of pollution there (my sinuses will always hate me) but that site is a bit full of shit.

I reference USEPA Regional Screening Levels (RSLs) a lot in my work and he is taking a lot of liberties there trying to compare to tapwater standards. This is for the non fecal coliform/entero compounds. You may get a yurkful out in the water but it's drinking a gallon a day for 30 years. Also, if they are talking dermal contact, while not good, pretty even with those respective RSLs.

But yeah that being said, I won't surf there either. Although I already am sterile so that's one less thing I'd have to worry about surfing there.

Do we really need pollution as a reason to not surf IB?

Kento you are right. Not an equal comparison with drinking water and contact with water. But, read all the findings and issues with coming in contact with that water. No bueno.

It must be so frustrating for the mayor of IB Serge Dedina. A lifelong resident, good surfer, and a leading voice in coastal conservation whos begging for federal intervention on both sides of the border unfortunately to no avail.

"Isn't stormwater treated before going into the ocean, like sewer water?

No! The storm drain system is separate from the sewage system. Storm drains are intended to take rainwater straight to the ocean to avoid area flooding. Storm drain water is not treated before flowing directly into rivers and the ocean, making it everyones responsibility to make sure storm drains and waterways are free of pollutants."
