Yup. Sounds like he's done.

“I think Luke Rockhold should talk about hanging it up,” White said at the UFC 239 post-fight news conference. “He broke his jaw tonight. That’s his second broken jaw, he’s been knocked out viciously a few times here, his shin is all banged up, he had to have skin graphs and all kinds of stuff. He’s had a good career. He’s been a great fighter. I’d like to see him hang it up.”

Time to go surfing and hope the money holds out. Nobody lasts forever.

From someone with zero MA experience or interest in learning
it, that looked like a split second lucky shot for the winner as the loser
put his head down. Agreed BA talked lots of shit and got his,
but that wasn’t a fight, it appeared to be a lucky shot. I don’t care one
way or the other, just an observation from an outsider.

In some ways you’re right (lucky shot) but mostly not.

Ben was going to shoot for a take down. That’s what he does, takes guys down and grapple rapes them until they’re completely exhausted, then (maybe) submits them.

He “put his head down” to shoot for a double leg. It was a shitty shot. In mma you don’t just shoot. You have to set that shit up with punches to the head and or high kick, at the very least.

Jorge knew he’d shoot on him and he’d been practicing that exact flying knee in training.

He said after the fight that there were 3 possible outcomes to the opening knee shot.

1. Knockout

2. A good connection but Ben absorbs it and he’s more hesitant to shoot for the rest of the fight.

3. Misses, gets in a scramble and gets back to his feet.

The only “lucky” part was that it connected so squarely.

I would have liked to see more of fight.

While I have limited MA experience, I think that was 100% intentional and with a high level of confidence that it would succeed. IMO Masvidal probably knows that BA is much more of a grappler than a striker, so he figured that BA would approach like a grappler. Which is why he went for the flying knee, because BA would not be expecting that.

No. Sorry oslide, but that was sloppy on askrens part. Masvidal talked about that’s all he does is shoot. If askren respected his opponent a bit more the fight probably would have gone for a while.

In some ways it was kind of predictable for Jorge. Ben does one thing. He wanted the immediate take-down and he ducked right into it as he shot. Little bit of a gamble on Jorge's part, if he'd have missed that he would have probably been on the ground which is where Ben wanted it. I don't know if deducing your opponents likely first move and committing to a counter is luck. Although I don't know if you can call it a counter since he initiated? I guess his initiation was a counter to Ben's expected course of action. Whatever. I wasn't expecting it. I figured Jorge would stay outside and snipe at his legs for awhile as he avoided the take-down. The fully confident commitment to that first technique was bad ass. No fear.

It's good that Ben lived.

A 360° clip was up earlier before ESPN took it down that showed perfectly Askren going in for the wrestling shot.

Ben Askren got humbled and brutally knocked out (fastest KO in UFC history at 5 seconds) in his first loss by a perfectly timed flying knee while shooting for takedown by Jorge Masvidal who is a beast. Kind of a fluke (smart but risky move by Masvidal that worked like a charm)...would like to see a rematch. Hopefully Ben learned something for next time by not just blindly shooting in immediately with head down like that again, but doing it at the right time. If he got Jorge Masvidal down to the ground...it would've been a much different (more boring) fight with Ben's Olympic level wrestling skills. Even if he didn't fight anymore, I could see him being a great commentator similar to Chael Sonnen. However, he will be back for more fights to come...not going to go out with his first ever KO loss like that.

Luke Rockhold on the other hand kind of overlooked Jan "Polish Power" Blachowicz and got caught with that left hook after the break that broke his jaw (2nd time now) and KO'd him. He is on the downslide for sure...glass chin doesn't help.

Only read about that one, but Jones was very conservative since Santos is a beast and Jones has an 8 inch reach on him which he really used to his advantage to eek out that one by split decision.

Interesting little observation here...

Rockhard tried “Jon Jones” The Pollock’s left arm (see Jones vs. Glover Teixeira for the over-hook-rip-the-shoulder-out-of-socket technique) and the The Pollock touched him with a short right to Rockhard’s nose which made him close his eyes for a second. The left arm got free in that moment and hit flush to the jaw. Rockhard never even saw it coming.

Holly Testosterholm tried to “Jon Jones” aMANda PoonLez by using those oblique kicks to the knees, PoonLez slipped the kick which leaves Testosterholm on one foot with hands down. Boom, head shot...

Moral - Only Jon Jones can do Jon Jones.

Yeah. Jones got a taste on that first leg kick and quickly realized that he could get knocked out at will.

So he stayed on the outside. I thought he should have taken Santos down and hellbowed his face into pulp.

He got a gift with that decision.
