Hope so. I sometimes think I should just stop making modifications and take whatever he wants to make me.

Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Based on the effusive praise on this thread i’m going to place an order for a Flare, a 6’ 21” 2 5/8 (slightly outside stock dims) coming in around 36 liters. Probably fcs ii 5 fin setup. I’m 6’ 170lbs, probably closer to 180 when wearing a 4/3, and surf pretty weak east coast waves from Rhode island to New Jersey, hence the bloated dims.

I had a question regarding upgrades, since the board is so reasonably priced i feel i ought to jazz it up a bit. You all speak very highly of the glassing chez Stamps. Should i get s glass all around ($30 extra), some combination of s and e, or stick to e glass?

Thanks in advance for any advice, and have appreciated the wisdom from some of the stalwarts here over the years.

Yeah. Tim’s prices are hard to beat all said and done.

I’ve personally had no issues with his standard (4+4 / 4), light (4 / 4) and in between (4 + with patch of 4 / 4) glassing performance. Never felt the need to go with “S” as I always figured it was fixing something that wasn’t broken.

Maybe add some color to your life? That or make the order a 2pak because it’s the same price as a single hipster sled.

looking forward to seeing that. i've been thinking of something similar. basically add 2-3 inches on the banjo fish but then reduce width to keep volume similar, add a double bump in the tail, and go 4 fins. i think there is a board on his website that is kinda like that:

I ordered a board once that was 4x4x4 all s-glass (not a stamps). Didn't like the feel. Too stiff.

4x4 E-glass top and bottom with a 4oz layer of S-glass on top is what I like best.

Also depends on how hard you are on boards.

A 2 pack is quite tempting, but i’ve recently made the resolution* that i ought not to own more boards than the number of times i manage to surf on a good week, which around LI/RI is 3. Remains to be seen if i can stick to such a spartan oath! Hopefully the Flare will fil the dd category, which was previously occupied by multiple hp twinnies.

Not super hard on my boards but i do like the idea of protecting the investment. I think i’ll go with 4s+4e/4e as jkb suggests.

Thanks to you both for the advice.

*resolution does not apply to travel quiver. Everything in moderation, after all.

Im similar height and weight to you 6'0 175.. Id size down a teeny bit If i were you. These things float and go. I did mine 5'10 20 and 2 1/2 and I couldnt be happier. For contrast my GX is 6'0 19.5 2 1/2 and thats what Tim recomended for my Flare and he man knows his shit.

I also do 4x4x4 S - Glass all over on all my orders for piece of mind and because its cheap and the board's feel great and has minimal deck wear even though I can be a tad heavy footed.
