I'd go with boxes on such a wide tail. You may have to play around with a few sets to find the right amount of fin area for you.

Vernor Mini Simmons, epoxy w/ IBeam. I just picked up a 5'6". I slapped on some Futures Alpha Quad Controllers, and the thing rips, knee to shoulder. I mainly surf it in the beach breaks at Bolsa Chica and Sunset Beach CA.

Go epoxy. Go short.

Just picked one up. I've surfed it a few times at a notorious beginner/longboard spot here in Northern California. Super impressed with how easily it catches waves and how fast it goes while still being maneuverable. I can rip mushburgers all day on this thing. Taking it to Santa Cruz tomorrow for some point break action.

Does yours have a generous amount of single concave running from nose to tail ?

Hmmm. No. It has a light single that becomes a pretty deep double in the middle of the board and through the fins.

Yeah, that's what I landed on. 5'5" epoxy Simmons with a twin setup, probably gonna put futures boxes in it.

I'm shaping my daughter a board first, a 7' cruiser/egg shape, then on to my board.

Thanks everyone for all the great replies, suggestions and all-around awesomeness so far in this thread.

Tim told me the flex pattern number is 8.5, at the most important part of the board, the nose.
