Ward Coffey Quad Fish - 5'9

Picked up off craigslist in excellent condition for $425, only thing notable were pressure dings on the front side from a heavy foot. Original owner (older fellow) got this custom made for him by Ward but it turns out he might have been overzealous in his weight x ability. I'm 5'10, 170 lbs and it's a perfect fit for a fish - volume probably clocks in around ~32-33 liters

One of the funnest boards I've ever had the privilege of riding, it paddles early into waves, absolutely flies down the line and actually carves super tight in the pocket. I've found that it works best in pockety, upright waves from waist to head-high (think the lane or sewers in Santa Cruz). Works surprisingly well on the backhand. Loves deep carves on an upright face with the narrow and thin swallow tail but lots of thickness upfront to get you up and riding.

Fiddled with different fins but ended up loving the Futures Alpha F8 - bigger fin for more drive and spray but still pretty flexible. Tried other large fins in stiffer fins techflex, JJF) and it felt too stiff. The large F8's give me a natural drive and carve on this board.

One of the best boards I've ever owned. The only thing I'd like is a similar version of this board with a 2+1 or thruster, just for getting a bit more vertical on good days. Maybe a Rocket Wide or similar in the future...

JC Flying fish!
Mine is 6'0 x 20.75 x 2.38 and just flat out Kills it in every category- paddle, wave catching, glide, speed, versatility- run as keel, semi keel twin, split keel quad- DRIVEy, and the best best best set up - JC1 fronts and Futures 3.25 sidebite rears flat foil insides. All 4 boxes are full depth so I can run Anything.
I'm 5'9 161 lbs - up in Rhode Island east coast and mine is considered "oversized" by rad Cali standards, but it covers Winter-Summer wetsuit changes- wave spectrum of super low end- serious damn business.
Just a sick sick sick board that I will, and have been riding into Valhalla.

Nice sled. Just have a 5th box installed - Felix @ Sand Dollar would be a good choice

I'd leave that as a quad too. Nice stick. Come to think of it, I don't own a single board with 5 boxes. I've never seen the need. Either I go tri, twin, or quad. IMHO, five boxes is marketing gimmick. Have several buddies that bought off the rack like that but they never change it around. My last 9 boards are all customs made specifically for me. That said, to each his own.

Well - you can’t fix stupid....

That board is not a Fish IMO. The term/descriptor has become obliterated. Just about any thing with any type of swallow tail and wider than HPSB nose gets called a Fish.

As to 5 fin set ups, do what the f ever makes you happy. I put them in all my boards - EXCEPT my fish.

Yup, especially if your fins were designed for the board

Been riding my Roberts Bro Fish....it has four fins...probably the fastest and most responsive board I've ever owned in my 34+ years of wave riding...when the back foot is on top of the twin fins it just takes off crazy fast down the line and then holds and pivots with the front twonzer fins when I turn on the open wave face. I plan to order a Roberts Disco Diamond here shortly for a more high performance approach and I'm really digging the fin placement as I was skeptical when considering purchasing the ride....rode this board in all types or conditions from waist high slop to slightly overhead A-frame runners and it's amazing how dead slow my regular tri-fin DD now feel. Like I'm riding with an anchor...

Youve ridden it as a straight twin? Or you just mean when your foot is over the front fins? I assume the quad fronts are closer to 12" from tail?

I really liked mine with the controllers, but I never tried with any other fins - so I have no reference. Looking forward to hearing your experience with the Stretch.
