2 day's ago, just Laird and me. Yesterday, no key I had to walk in, just one other foil. Today, myself, 2 other foils, then when I was changing the guy from yesterday was going out, and when I left a foil in a truck was driving down. So I guess foils are showing up. It's gonna get crazy out there, but maybe it'll be until next year when all those rich guys finally buy in.

Looks like the wave is easier on a sup foil, non ?

I can see the benefits of the sup foil. Mostly in paddling back out the long distance. And a bit on the drop of the bigger sets. Only laird is on the sup foil though. Everyone else is prone.

Interesting observation. Prone foils dominate the CA spots. I wonder if other spots tend to be the opposite? Around here (Vancouver Island), there's too few to say, but it's mostly SUP so far. Me and a buddy, and 1 or 2 others starting out.

I am attempting the transition to prone foil, for the freedom of movement the smaller board will allow. But facing the reality check of paddling fitness. There's a reason I've been mostly longboarding and SUPping past 10 years, and it isn't because they are more radical. ;-) Once I am competent at prone foil and getting equivalent rides, I anticipate getting quite a few less waves per session, as I can paddle back literally twice as fast on my sup (unless I am in a spot where walk backs are easy). Though better rides once on them and maybe, just maybe, if learn to do the pumping effectively, that'll even things out. We'll see.

Anyways, back to thread topic, Session Logs: got nothing to share, entering the flat season, no more big storms to funnel swell down the JDF Strait. Nearest consistent surf is 5 hour drive. Kiting and boat foil training instead.

Well, this is a pretty crap video of pretty crap foiling but here it is...super marginal, and tripod-ing on the reef as the waves drew up. M200 29.5” mast.

On sunday june 2nd I'm gonna organise a funfoilday at Sano, it is not an event, it will be my last weekend in California before I move back to France. So for this occasion, I'm trying to get all the foilers I know to come down there to share some waves, talk foil, etc... Evan from Axis foil will be there with demo foil, Damian Brawner will be there with 52foico boards to show. For those who haven't foiled Sano it might a good day to come !

Now this is tempting. How early do I have to show up to get in the lot easy?

Probably caught 20-25 waves today in the hour I had to foil. 3 of them (including my wave in) were 2 for 1's. That is the most satisfying feeling to turn back around and ride the 2nd wave. Especially on the 2nd one where I touched down while still pumping out but had already made it to the section of reef that boils back up at you and was able to save it and still get the 2-1.

I was almost tempted to ride a normal board at a different section of the beach, but thankfully 3 guys pulled up right after me and were going there. So I put together my foil instead and had a great time by myself with no one around at the "lesser" of the spots.

Windy day put me at another spot I've been scoping. Got a few decent rides but the waves were breaking a lot closer to shore than i anticipated. Short rides on the foil aren't that fun.

Quick kick out and loop connection for 2-1's are fun though. One of the SUP guys told me he got a SUP foil setup off craigslist. It'll be interesting to see if he sticks with it. The windswell today was crazy. Sort of messing up the South that was in the water and making the waves come in sideways, but I still had fun. Took off on one and went left. Made it through the dry reef section and kicked out with speed, loop connection on the pump back out and went right on the very next wave.

Hdip, your tail wing is adjustable, yeah? what do you have it set at? I've got the chinese knockoff of the Naish Large, and can't quite get the 2 for 1's down. I get about halfway to the next wave, before I've lost all my speed.

I've always had it set to neutral. The wing does not pump well. You have to kick out just right carrying a lot of speed. Then you can put in a lot of effort and sometimes make it to the next wave. I make about half of the ones I try for if today is anything to go for. Had a chance at 6. Made 3 of them. It helps if you can go over a reef that boils back up at you. Or you time backwash just right to get an extra boost out. I'm 185# so maybe it's a bit small for me to really pump on.

I do have the foil set 3/4's of the way forward in my tracks. Being able to get my back foot behind the mast helps me so much on turns and steep drops. Pumping I definitely move my back foot on top or in front of the mast though. There's a definite depth sweet spot where you're just right at the top of the mast without breeching. Hard to keep the foil there though.

I'm very tempted to go to San O June 2nd just so that I can try other foils. Axis demo's at the least. I probably won't be able to make it though. If I knew there would be Lift demo's I'd probably make a greater effort to get there.

Took an island hop last week to be a part of the https://www.fullonfoil.org/ event representing Go Foil and Olukai. First foil only comp and was a good time with team competition. Had to catch as many waves as you can in 3 twenty minute heats. Team Kaua'i killed it with an all prone team. I was the only proner on our team.

There were 8 teams total. No age restrictions, and I think we were the oldest team out there as most of us were over 50. Most other teams were under 30.
