I dig Tomos shortboards a lot. Freaking love them, myself.

I recently got a Psyko, which is the double wing pin tail version of a V4. Rocker, foil, fin set-up? All the same. Just a different tail.

So heres what Ive found when comparing my V-4 to my Psyko, and for sh!ts & giggles also comparing those to my Cybersim. Mind you, this is just my experience. Your mileage will probably differ, Im just giving you my 2 cents.

The V-4 has the split twin tip style swallow. It holds much better down the line, and allows you to draw out your carves more. This means it turns slower than the Psyko with that triple wing pin (think long carve versus short slash], so it has a tendency to maintain speed OUT of the turn. This makes the Psyko a much better board for beach breaks and top to bottom grinding waves, whereas the V-4 excel at point breaks and down the line spots. I live in Santa Barbara, the land of point breaks and down the line spots.

The V-4 has a more forgiving feel that I dig. For this old man, its better at closing out waves (floaters, airs, lip hits) because of the wider platform. It just works for me. The Pysko is f-ing fast and quick, incredible for barrels, but Ive turned out of some waves because its such a short/abrupt turning radius for what Im expecting. I've also sunk the tail numerous times on closing maneuvers. #leadfoot Ive used the Psyko 3x now, so its not like ive got scads of experience on the Psyko versus the V-4 design Ive used for years. It has been great at the Pit which is a beach break and at an unnamed barreling spot, but it's totally different than my V4; this admittedly surprised me given how similar the two are.

The Cybersim has a wide fat squash. No channels. Its fast as lightening but with a more relaxed rocker so not as good at late drops or rounder waves. Soft waves? Its like cheating. I love it beyond words. Any kind of soft wave? Unless its so pathetic only a log will work, Im on the Cybersim.

All my boards are 19 wide. The V-4 step up pictured is 30 liters (have a new V-4 round nose coming and CANNOT WAIT FOR IT!), the Psyko is 29 liters, and the Cybersim is 30.5 liters.

Final notes:
1. V-4: Get it for point breaks and down the line waves. Good at barrels & late drops, better at long drawn out carves.
2. Psyko: Get it for beach breaks and rifling fast down the line waves. GREAT at barrels and late drops, better at quick & short radius slashes/lip hits.
3. Cybersim: Get it for everything else under head high.

Just got my new V4! Selling the Psyko. Perfect condition. If any interest, check the classifieds. (Honest review above)

Just picked up a lightly used Vader. What fins did you guys run on it when you surfed this board?
For those of you who have had both, how does the Vader compare to the Cymatic?

Best Vader fins = Futures YU Techflex. They're getting hard to find now though. FCSII Reactors work well too.

Thanks Goodfish, Im a bit on the bigger side (215 lbs about 99 kg). Are the YU fins on the bigger side of fins that you ride? I remember both the Nano and the Vanguard going pretty well if the fins were a bit on the smaller side. I was thinking the Futures ...Lost 2 fins which were a bit smaller than I normally go. If bigger rakier fins are the call I could go AM Large or Jordys. Thoughts?

CDES: I like AM2's with most of my Tomo's. I am getting some SA FCS2 this weekend. I have a feeling those are gonna go good in my Cymatic. Cant wait to try them.

You have the krypt dower drive fins, right? Howd they go in the Cymatic?

Has anyone ridden both the Hydroshort and the Hydronaught....Im loving the Hydroshort and wondering if the Hydronaught has the same stability.....on say late drops....the Hydroshort just holds a stable line in steep pockets without wanting to turn instantly. Just wondering how the Hydronaught with the more pulled in tail holds like this or more wants to be turned.....

I PM'd you brother. They go good! Krypt has some new G10 Epoxy fins now that are a little more stiff than the previous ones. I like the stiff ones he has now better than the previous ones! Im running them now in the HS. He has them in Futures and FCS2!

I have ridden them both. I had a 5'6" Hydronaut and I have a 5'5" Hydroshort. I think the Hydronaut felt more stable. The way you describe the Hydroshort is the way I would describe the Hydronaut. Good paddler, stable, not tracky but it holds a straight line perfectly. I felt like the pulled in tail with the wide point forward made it harder to turn (IMO). But I've seen Timmy Reyes and Tomo turn that board no problem, sooo.... The Hydroshort feels stable like the Hydronaut, but much easier to turn.

Anyone know if the Firewire Hydroshort coming out around May will be the squash? Round tail? Both?

If I was a betting man, I'd say squash. Didn't;t know there was a May timeline for the Hydroshort though, that's pretty exciting, been wanting to try that one.

Yeah, @firewiresurfboards posted on IG that Hydroshort coming May/June.

I was just about to pull the trigger on a Hydronaut in hopes that it would work in average waves, but now I’ll wait.

The 4th board on the right looks like an El Tomo with a Hydro-nose. That thing looks pretty epic!!

The swallow tail looks super sick too! The next two look like a Hydroshort round and a Hydroshort Squash. But that last one looks kinda funky! I think I'd like it better without that wing on the tail.
