Derek's son Makoa is a super smooth longboarder, but doesn't even really surf. I think he's a model?

Loved the stories from my friend's dad who was old HPD about arresting/dealing with Uncle Derek for breaking into/stealing cars. That Ho family is crazy awesome all around. Watching those guys at Pipe in the 80's was bowdown

his hyper-active interviewee routine has caught the eye of many talking heads.
SNL mocked beto last night for such.

Michael Ho was the very first surfer I ever recall seeing back watching a surf contest on Wide World Of Sports when I was a kid in the late 70s. The guy still rips at 61 years old. Guy is 12 years older than me and still fit enough to paddle out and surf well at Pipeline which I am in complete awe of.

Derek's style = sick

Derek's confidence at Pipe is so subtle yet gnarly.

Derek and Michael's part in Wave Warriors 4 always gets me stocked.

I queued it up, just press play.

Derek looks smooth, Mikes style is crook. Even in those shorter waves he is hard to watch, couldnt imagine what hed do on a open faced point. Its obviously not a genetic thing. More like a lifetime of reinforcement. It seems most pros come from surfing families, having started very early. Mike definitely isnt a natural, he looks very forced, arms flapping the wrong way and looks off balance. Compared to someone like Dane Reynolds who started late, its quite easy to see a genetic predisposition to certain activities.
