Oh wise erBB, guide me bowdown

Gonna be up there this weekend with the family.

Need advice on a good dawn patrol spot for Monday morning.

PM me or just say "go surf the lane"

(Seriously though, is steamer lane worth surfing on a smaller day, or is it a crowded mess?)

I show up alone. I have no bros (or brahs) to bring along and crowd out a spot.

Also curious about a place to push my niece into a few friendly waves. Is Pleasure Point area good for beginners, or is it super-aggro-longboard-dude town?

Grew up there as a young kid, but haven.t been there in many years (and have never surfed while there). Totally looking forward to it smile

Oh, and for your troubles, here's a couple doogo's who are so happy it's not currently raining:

you're going to get surf; plenty of swell with wind out of the north. haven't been there in years but pleasure point is calling your name IMO.

Friendly push in type waves for your niece at Cowells. If small try Manresa, but yeah the Lane or PP may have something for you.

Capitola would be a sweet spot for your niece, plus it's a friendly beach and esplanade for the family to hang out, eat, window shop, etc. Also, Saturday, Sunday and Monday afternoons show a super low tide, enabling a walk under the Depot Hill bluffs toward New Brighton. If the sand isn't covering all the rocks, you'll find 5-million-year old baleen whale fossils embedded in the rock. Pretty amazing.

Manresa in the winter is a horrible place for a beginner.

Yeah, Cowells for beginner. Manresa may have if town is small or head north is another option. Have fun.

I recommend natural bridges on a clean west swell.

SC town spots are all jam packed pretty much any time it's even remotely good. The Hook and the Lane are exceptionally bad. Some spots have surly locals if you don't lay low, and some other spots are pretty much locals or personal invites only. PP spots like the Hook and Sewers are packed but other spots can get good and spread out the hordes a little bit, or not. Up the coast has a bunch of spots but you need to know exactly where to go and if there's a big swell it'll be huge, and the farther away from SC you go: sharks.

+1 on Cowells for beginners.

1) Careful of water quality.

2) Maybe a break in the weather this Saturday.

3) No reason to go further north than Pigeon Point.
