I used to live on Muir Ave in OB. east side of sunset cliffs Blvd so technically out of the war zone. This was the early to mid 90s. Fukking choads used to park their camper in front of our house. My roommate used to sneak out the back into the alley and around the block and light that dirt ball mobile up with firecrackers.

Locals should rise up. Problem then. Problem now.

It's the cheap, hard drug usage, that is f**ked up! Bet most of 'em are from outta town too.
Growin' up in Venice Beach a looong time ago, you get used to pep's living different lifestyles.
Cheap, hard~core cheap drugs are really the scourge of society. Not some bohemian who might smoke a lil' bud, hash, wanna surf, work odd jobs, live a cheap, frugal, low environmental footprint life~style that most would rather not do. The hard~core drug users are the problem!

Heck, you boyz do know your surf history, right?
There were surfers livin' on the beach at Malibu in the 1950's when surfing was considered
counter~culture. Here's thee hut, Gidget too, circa '56. Van life has been around for~ever,
just f**k the hard drugs!

Aren't you goin' to Hawaii for the 1st time soon?
If so, happy surfing, hope you score!

Can you rent a tricked out van for a month of so at a reasonable price?

Traveling and moving this summer and need a place for a month or so - may try the "van life" to save $$

Yes. A few companies out there rent out tricked out vans from soccer mom vans to free candy van options. They're pretty inexpensive travel options.

News like this makes me glad I left California. I lived in OB's war zone for over a decade, I know how this is going to go. I remember hearing firecrackers late at night.... StinkinHippie wasn't the only one doing it!

roflmao hell no - she is moving before me - solo van life

I like a front door and a bathroom for my nightly pisses - so van life is most likely not for me

How tricked out do you want it to be? Ive used Lost Campers a few times and had great experiences. The vehicles are older but inexpensive, beds are decent, have a sink and they throw in extras like camping stove/chairs/storage/bedding/etc.

Ill have to dig more to see if I have any shots. Sierra Mountains fly rodding PBJ and Tecate break (you may have been the one to recommend this epic spot I fished)

But let's not try to give the bums handouts or help them, because "bootstraps".

This is just another sign of how poorly society treats the poor. Nobody should have to live in a car.

Back in the early 80's the condo my GF and I were renting sold out from under us and we had to move pronto.
It was winter and time for the annual Mainland Mex trip.
We packed everything into a mini storage and bailed for 5 weeks to warmer climes.
After we got back it took about a month to find another place so we just stayed at Carp State Beach.
I had a pretty tricked out '68 VW bus and it wasn't too bad. The campground has clean bathrooms and hot showers, we had a camp fire every night, pretty fun.
But after a month we were so over it, especially since we had just spent 5 weeks in the van down south.
Couldn't imagine having to live like that permanently. Sad situation.

Quote:

As the tide laps the shore in the early hours of the dawn, Dorian Doc Paskowitz rouses his family from their camper-van slumber with a tinny recording of Chairman Maos March of the Volunteers. Arms planted on his hips, and the sun beating down on his tanned body, the lieutenant waits as his family file out one by one, falling in line from tallest to smallest. Known as the First Family of Surfing, the famous Paskowitz clan were a regular feature on the coasts of California. Reminiscent of the Brady Bunch with surfboards, their nomadic journeys around America in a beat-up Chevy Impala were legendary.

Over a span of 25 years, the family of eleven toured the nations coastline, spreading the gospel of clean living, abundant health and the healing power of the surf. Their story tells the tale of one mans mission for freedom, self-liberation and the pitfalls and sacrifices it took to preserve life in paradise. Speaking to Adam Paskowitz, the sixth son of Doc and his wife Juliette, he shares the legacy of a man whos great kindnesses and great extremes were often misunderstood by those that live beyond the surfing world.~snip~

Uh bad comparison.

Especially considering Paskowitz was on a discipline and health trip.

#VANLIFE is an instagram trip.

The RV dwellers given the OK are on a cigarettes/drugs/alcohol trip.

It's great that you're not generalising at all. roflmao

Very sad that people use public places.

Government should do something to stop it.

I agree.

If you want to live like that than fine but don't bring kids into the world and subject them to that.

Really no different than circumcision, homeschooling, taking your kids to a gun range or a church. All borderline child abuse, except for circumcision which is child abuse.

Then those kids grow up and become parents and do the same to their kids.

We are all results of our parent's stupid ideas.

The lucky ones put it in their stride, the unlucky ones stay bitter for the rest of their lives.
