turning 40 in october

first born turning 4 in october

have been hinting to the wife hollow trees resort.

I'll probably end up having a taco man (a good one if im lucky) and a bounce house at home.

pray for some decent windswell so I can actually get some turns in this fall.

cheers

Your timing is perfect. I just got back from Tavarua 3 days ago. 40th bday/10th anniversary trip with the wife (non surfer). She was a little bit apprehensive about the trip at first for similar reasons you mentioned, but once we got there she LOVED it. First night there she was already asking me how we can figure out a way to go back with the kids in the next year or two (or as soon as possible).

The timing on the morning/sunrise boat was ideal. I'd get out on the first boat, surf for a couple hours, and we'd usually pull up on the beach right around the time the wife had finished her workout and was heading to breakfast. We'd do breakfast together, then hang by the pool, or snorkel, paddleboard etc... Some days I'd go back out on the after lunch boat. Other days I'd just lounge around the restaurant/pool area with the wife until happy hour/dinner.

If you wanna go nuts and can spring for the extra cash (about $1900 extra), see if you can get them to put you in one wing of the villa. Full on luxury accommodations, totally killer.

Be advised that meals are included, but you have to pay for sodas, smoothies, shakes, as well as all alcohol at the bar. When we go back, I'd grab not only more beers/wine in town before heading out to the island, but any sodas/non-alcoholic drinks that you might want for the week. A few snacks/bars are a good idea as well. Don't forget a re-usable water bottle as well to fill at the bar and take with you on the boat.

A dry bag/waterproof backpack is also a nice thing to have to bring stuff with you when you head out on the boats.

A few of the other families told us they bought a wifi box at the airport for about $80, and could link all their devices up using that instead of the paid wifi on the island. It's $120 for 1 device for the week, $160 for 2 devices if you go through the Tavi office.

My wife's favorite thing we did during the week was take a boat over to Cloud 9, the floating bar that's about 30 mins away. It's not super cheap (bring cash), but a fun way to kill an afternoon and get a good buzz going. You can jump off the second story into the ocean which makes for a good time.

I surfed with another couple that was there on their honeymoon, and the wife wasn't really looking for anything nuts in terms of waves, and she was able to have plenty of fun at Namotu Lefts, Despo's, and even on the smaller days at Cloudbreak. Kiddieland is super user friendly, but more of a playful/beginner wave, not really long rides or anything.

Don't hesitate to shoot me a PM if you want more info.

The place is so killer, if your wife doesn't like it, there's something wrong with her. It's seriously impossible to have a bad time there unless you somehow hate beautiful/warm tropical islands.

Nice! You guys are gonna have a blast. We're already trying to figure out when we can go back. We're gonna set up a bank account specifically for it and then throw cash in there as often as we can so we can make it happen asap.

We did a night in Nadi before going out to the island, and that was nice to get in and get some decent sleep so we could arrive on the island not totally wrecked.

The couple that I surfed with stayed at the Marriott Momi Bay which is about 20 minutes further from the airport than the rest of the Denerau area hotels, but it's only a couple years old and they said it was really nice. The other plus is that you can get picked up directly from the dock at the Marriott Momi Bay to head out to Tavarua and save the long van ride to the landing and the awkward walk out to the boats with the bags.

hmm. interesting. we are planning an extra few nights after the 7 nights on Tavaura, but maybe we will book one of those "extra" nights to the beginning of the trip. Lounging at a Fijian marriott seems like a nice way to prepare for 7 days of tavarua lol

If you haven't been to Tavarua, I'd say book those nights on the front of the trip. We had an afternoon to kill in Nadi on the way home and it seemed like a huge let down after how awesome Tavarua was. We were in the Denerau area hotels which are nice, but just can't stack up to Tavarua. Once we left the island, we kinda just wanted to get home rather than linger in Nadi.

so spend the first 3 nights at the Marriott to adjust to local time, explore the island, hang out and be tourists, etc. Then Saturday Get picked up by Tavaura boat at the Marriott's private dock (awesome)

Then i will be in fine fettle to attack CB and Restaurants for 7 days straight

Then just fly home, blissed out and a little sad to be leaving lol
