Both designed as a daily driver, swallowtail performance/hybrid shortboard:

- Board 1 is a 6'1 with a regular nose
- Board 2 is a 5'9 with a round nose
- from the wide point back they are identical in plan shape and rocker.
- The front half are similar but the pointy nose is slightly narrower to blend better, and the rocker is extended a little higher for the longer nose.

Discuss hypothetically what performance differences you would perceive and the pros and cons of each.

Interested to hear some opinions, as i've been on round noses for years now. Not sure if i am surfing them cause they are the best option for me or because i am used to them so much that pointy noses feel weird now.

A lot of surfing comes down to what's going on in your head

Those fins are big or stiff ? Well then they are

Like pointy nose , like round nose ? Whatever you like will probably surf better for you

I have found round noses can have a bit of in predictability factor to them . off the bottom and in turns

The term bouncy comes to mind

This is very true, belief in our equipment has a lot to do with our enjoyment of equipment choice.

My answer:

given what you described the pointy nose board will most likely be more effective at duck diving. Apart from that I am unable to say.

The round nose will probably paddle better with more foam under your chest but the pointy will be able to fit in tight spots better and less swing weight so it'll whip faster

Round noses get rejected by the lip, pointy noses penetrate the lip more effectively.

yeah good point about what's in your head. I feel like the longer nose makes me subconsciously shuffle forward, hindering ability to turn.

I'm gunna shape the board with pointy nose and give it a solid shot for a few months and see how it feels. If I don't like I'll just go back to my

For me the round noses feel great frontside, can't pick any faults, haven't really encountered the not penetrating the lip issue frontside, however backside I have and also feel like I dig rails on backhand bottom turns more than I should.
