For those who remember the DVGerman thread... this video just popped up on YouTube for me to watch... it looks to be published late in 2018...

A long read but worth it imo

Thanks for this vid, link too Rickoray!

I am readin' your long link,
am at his "I concoct a theory" now, good stuff, he will indeed connect thee dotz.
His personal experiences, his in~sight helped him out out a~lot...

Link: http://www.otherhand.org/home-page/searc...ncoct-a-theory/

You post makes me want to talk/write about what happened
to Roy Stoddard+Tamara McAllister a few dayz ago, 30 years ago, back in January of 1989.
My connection to it also, my lil' research still un~finished, wish I had help in a few more ways.
What happened to Roy? And Tamara? The dots from R. Collier do not add up in my surfer opinion...

Happy surfing!
Hope that you surf next time in clean water,
for these California rains have made it sheeee~it color out there right now.
Be some good sand bars though when it all settles down, cleans up I bet...

I thought the video was pretty bad and kind of akward but I highly recommend the read.

I read it when posted a few years back and loved every bit of it.

Thanks for intriguing read. Never heard of this, but read Manhood's long form article. Very interesting (and sad).

I think most casual surfers know better than to paddle out into the peak of double overhead Pipe.

Remember watching a Huell Howser show on Death Valley...lots of German tourists there...tragic story. Called Death Valley for a reason and no joke in summer! Very sad...

Even though I live in Trona I know better than to sojourn into the Valley of Death.

Tragic story right there ROR.

I'm not sure why they didn't just backtrack.

It looked like a doeable do from the visitor Kiosk map????

Good intentions, gone bad. Very bad.

Kind of like finding open public toilets at Willow Creek these days. You nut up and take your chances... ban

Really? Trona? If y, what would take you from the coast to a town like that?

The only time I went to DV I blew a tire exactly after passing the Stovepipe gas station. Changing a scorching hot tire on even more scorching hot asphalt wasn't fun but man, almost anywhere else around there would have majorly sucked.

Interesting surfing side note to this story: The author's RMRU partner Les Walker, who discovered the bones, is also a photographer. In fact, a very talented surf photographer that was on retainer for surfing mag in the 90's and took over for Larry "Flame" Moore as Surfing Mag photo editor when Flame went to Swell.com.

Take it to the end.

An outcrop of rock out in in the middle of nowhere. China Lake
weapons station. A couple of skeletons.

I wonder if they never found the children's bones because the parents buried them?

There's no way a 4 year old is walking or surviving out there for long.

A blast of heat. The China basin weapons range. Absolutely nothing. For as far as you can see.

Oh heck yeah, I remember when steak posted this a few years back. Absolutely fascinating and heart breaking. I read the whole article and followed along on the maps.

That's what I thought, but Mahood mentions something about a 4x4 post and a prospector pile with some bottles on it. There's no way it's a prospector pile out there and the bottles might have been a shrine? I don't know. Sounded odd to be where it was and would explain no kids bones.

Yes, many random bury sites out there from original days of wagons. No mark on maps. We fond one hiking across valley. Small stone with small pile rocks. I think because heat, and where digging for gold. Read history book. Amazing place.

Bud Ice (along with Pete's Wicked Ale, Molson, etc.) practically passed for craft beer back in the mid-90s.

Hey, at least it wasn't Zima.

Yeah, I get the prospecting history and that there were bury sites all over the valley (hence Death Valley name), but this location was waaaaay off the beaten path of wagons and prospectors.

This location was the China Lake Naval weapons range. A million miles from nowhere.

After finding their abandoned car. It took almost 20 years to track down their remains.

After reading that, I am NEVER going to Death Valley again. I have friends who are always talking about checking out Barker Ranch, Ballarat and China Lake (or whichever facility Jack Parsons allegedly left grafitti at), but I can't help picturing . . . not-happy outcomes if something goes wrong.

My cousins lived in Trona when I was a kid, and my family used to go out there for Christmas and Thanksgiving. I thought Death Valley was a magical playground, but now . . . shocked2

. . . and your little dog, too!

They're German, nothing's going to make sense.

I've been banned from better websites than this one.

its an amazng place if u r prepared and have a good reliable 4x4. we used to go in summer to avoid the crowds lol. if i quit surfing, all i'd do would be backcountry camping and exploring in dv and elsewhere.

Crazy story.

What's the difference between conservatives and liberals?

Conservatives get angry when you lie to them. Liberals get angry when you tell
them the truth.
