It all depends on how much you can afford to spend on housing. Work in Los Al is not a bad drive from a lot of good living places. North-Central Coastal OC absolutely rocks if you have a good setup.

I can reasonably afford the 1 bedroom coastal apartments I'm seeing in HB. I could probably afford a cheaper Newport house but would consider it an unreasonable waste of money. I can't afford the $25k house I mentioned earlier.

Does Surfside/Sunset Beach get consistent surf, or is it too shadowed by PV to pull in NW swell?
Will living a block or two off Main Street be irritatingly loud on weekend nights?

Let me be the voice of reason.

Don't do it. The job isn't worth the move.

OC sucks. Southern California sucks. You'll regret the move in 6 months and wish you were back home.

Oh, and the waves suck too.

I'm not kidding.

Fun little right wedge in sunset up near the jetty. Seems to work ok summer or winter and is generally pretty uncrowded compared to the stretch of beach's south.. Lots of fluffy sightings up that way though in the summer, and the stingrays are out of control.

Get a surfline account and you can check the surf daily! Seal beach south side works best on a long period west swell. River works best on a south swell. Same for surfside and sunset beach.

Go ahead, get grumpy! The resident photogs have blown the place up. But, if the great white sharks, yes, they are there, don't deter you and the stingray population doesn't faze you, there is a hardcore group of guys who have all of those places dialed. And getting a wave off of them isn't easy!

I remember there was a time when surfside/sunset was just all closed out. It wasn't really worth checking out.

And there was this swell and it was perfect and no body out.

We ran back to our car to get our boards in a panic.

Hey freak , though I just sold my mobile home house
In Newport six months ago and made a killing. And am
set for life . I agree with everyone. HB is you're happy place.
Parking on the peninsula is a fvcking nightmare.
Newport has year round good surf. But HB has the best
Night life without the third right cops from Newport . We have Hitler ism on traffic
Control . I know - I worked for them
For 32 years before retiring. Stay in
HB or Seal Beach. Our surf is consistent all year long
And I know every break from

Here to San Diego. Ask , anybody about me. I'll show you a couple of reef
Set ups that will make you lick you're chops.
Ask Kento, CASurfer and a few others.
Myself, Spoonfish , Keenfish , ( all from newport ) Ringer, and a bunch are
all from this two mile stretch. You'll be stoked. If you get a pad on 6 th street in HB, Taco Bell reef goes off on a
medium tide on any swell , you'll be set and stoked. If not ???
Take you're drunken faggot ass back to the east coast.
Oh wait , there is a guy in
Tijuana slows that drinks wine that will show
You the ropes

I'm from San Diego. Moving "home" would still put me in SoCal. Not "back to the east coast." I do currently live in Sonoma, which has plenty of fluffies and few worthwhile breaks.

OTF, I'd be happy to see your reef setups. I can't wait to drop in on all three of your triplets.
